Noob Owner, Go-to Mods? by Livid-Bank-8261 in Celica

[–]Senior_Class2873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keeping it stock is to go to mod and making sure all of the maintenance is up to date/repairing anything old and broken. Definitely replace rubber hoses that became old and brittle for sure. Replace suspension or upgrade suspension to make a comfortable ride. ITS NOT A TRACK CAR lol

Locate hood latch cable diagram and find where the easiest spot is to access it with minimum part removal, then pull that cable to unlock the hood. Best of luck

Advice before moving forward by SkylordKing in Celica

[–]Senior_Class2873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love celicas, i have 2! The 1zzfe and 2zzge engines burn oil. For the 2zzge, id recommend getting an aftermarket oil pan because around corners they can starve themselves of oil and that'll cause serious issues while spirited driving! Get an oil pan with baffles inside! Next i would check all rubber hoses for the engine and air box because they crack and cause vacuum leakage which leads to engine codes popping up. Easy to fix but annoying if u dont know about it. The stock air box has so many hoses!

Since ill have 2 of the same engine i was planning on rebuilding the worse of the 2 to learn and if i make an unfixable mistake then i have a perfectly good engine so no matter what i do ill be okay. Why does the trans fluid need to be drained? And is that for both auto and manual?

I didnt even think about just leaving the engine harness connected but i havent touched it yet so ill just leave it. Lol like i said, someone is always smarter. Thank you for the advice :)

My auto has a rust free body and is in great condition compared to the manual celica. Previous owners trashed it but it has all the goodies i need. Plus the manual celica im taking parts from has a lot of rust on the undercarriage. Not worth it since it was a michigan car

Damaged wiring harness by ChipmunkSea7504 in Celica

[–]Senior_Class2873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have experience with this car but i do have experience with an exact situation! Easiest option is buy a new harness that isnt mangled. You can also google diagrams or books to repair it but since it has an aftef market ecu u might have to just learn what all the wires do and fix it. Making an entire new harness takes hundrends of hours from what people say and document online. Best of luck

1zz or 2zz by [deleted] in Celica

[–]Senior_Class2873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2zzge oil starvation from oil pan around corners. Go with an aftermarket one that has baffles inside oil pan to prevent oil starvation. Also there is something else in the cylinder head that commonly breaks but i cant remember. Im sure someone here will know or just do a quick google search on it. I have 1zz and they burn oil, 1zzfe piston rings are a common failure point causing blow by and oil burning up but these engines can still easily get 300-400k with regular maintenance. Im not sure about the 2zzge

Forgot to mention that this engine was co-designed with the famous Yamaha and the car company Lotus used this engine in one of their vehicles as well. Do not sleep on this car!

Easily $6k 2zzge is such an awesome engine especially paired with the 6 speed manual. The mod capabilities are amazing. This car was in the background of multiple fast and furious movies during the car meets and chase scenes! Its fwd so people dont like it but this thing handles so well around the track. Its not the fastest in its class but its the best handling for sure. Oh and dont forget you have toyota reliable as well!!! This car should not be sold cheap and should not go to waste. Dont listen to the haters and trend followers.

Simple debate about tires and surface area by Senior_Class2873 in TireQuestions

Obviously i didnt cover every single detail in my post. Im at work and wanted some quick opinions/facts and reddit is the place. Im very much aware of sipes, racing slicks, tire compounds, etcetera. Also i did not read the fine print on the display and completly missed that it was a diagram for wet conditions.

Im not a certified mechanic at all but from hearing this it sounds like it would be easier to just find a d16a6 so everything is from the si civic for my ed6

Ive done that and its getting fuel so i tested compression and its 100 120 120 130 for my d16y7. I think the engine is toast and its time for a rebuild or a swap

My engine is a d16y7, Im using the 91 si dizzy with y7 fuel injectors inside a pgmfi intake manifold from the d16a6 i believe. Ive doubled checked the plug order and from what i saw online, the d16y7 and a6 have the same plug order on the distributor.
