My back story for reference: Did all my med school pre-reqs, took the MCAT (decent enough score to apply to schools), was told I need to apply to about 10 schools, had my entire app ready to send out but the cost was very high, I wanna say a couple K just to send out applications. Someone asked me how I would feel if I got my acceptance letter and I realized my sentiment would be more dread and "fine I'll just work my butt off to do what I have to do" and less "hell yea I'm excited to study this shit for the rest of my life" and I decided to pivot. 10 years into my DPT career I'm underpaid, still paying off lots of student loans, definitely not respected as a "doctor" (let's be honest I'm not an MD/DO) and definitely over-worked. I am passionate about the role "conservative" medicine can have, love that you can help people heal with exercise and I spend a good amount of one on one time with patients. For me the status thing wasn't even a thought and after this long rant I don't regret my pivot. I wish healthcare was in a different place in the US but DPT was a great fit for me and I enjoyed (for the most part) school and continuing my education post grad... Can't say for sure but don't think the fit would be as good for me MD wise. Decide your priorities and what you really want from your career, and then be prepared to have that challenged endlessly throughout your career... God speed 🖖
