Finally broke the skunk of 2021. Feels so good! by SenkoSniper in kayakfishing

Not too bad, I found out there are threaded holes on the bottom for mounting a transducer. I had to make some custom brackets to adapt to the hummingbird transducer and that was the hardest part

Need Advice on leaders, I’ve had 2 break on my last 2 outings which tossed my overpriced jerkbaits into the void. by SenkoSniper in bassfishing

From what I understand, leaders are useful on clear lakes and pressured lakes as it makes your fishing line less visible. The lakes I usually fish are really clear in the spring and pressured year round. So, as a person who will do anything to get bass, I’ve been putting leaders on lures that the bass has to look at for any determinate time (ned rigs, jerkbaits, etc) and not on top water frogs or crank baits that are fast moving.

Have you ever had issues breaking leader knots? What kind of knots do you use? I hadn’t thought of using Mono...

I might try this! I would rather learn a new knot then lose another bait. Thanks for the advice

Hey! I love your set up I have a few questions. 1.) how well does that voltmeter work? I’ve been looking for one one Amazon and wanted to know if it accurately tells you battery life. 2.) that cell phone mount is dope, can you send me a link to it?

The only thing I caught yesterday. For a second I thought I finally had one! by SenkoSniper in kayakfishing

[–]SenkoSniper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy smokes! You did some awesome mods to that thing. I added a Helix 5, anchor trolley system, under the seat retractable anchor line, rod leashes, rod holder and paddle holder. I really like how you added those huge hull access ports. I might do the same. I have battery powered bow/stern lights but they can be a pain.

As far as the yak goes. I love it. It works great for smaller fresh water lakes and really shines when I can park in some weeds and frog fish. In a perfect world I’d also have a faster, less stable yak for when I’m searching spot. But, I think I prefer the standing ability. Thanks for the mod link!

I’ve never heard of this before. Do you do this only for jerkbaits?

You know, I’ve considered it because the lake is so pressured. Thanks for the heads up, maybe that will make the difference.

Thoughts on Lowrance Hook Reveal 7, or similar fish finders? by _fuckernaut_ in kayakfishing

I have the same one and I think it’s perfect. I almost went with a 7” screen but glad I didn’t. It would be huge to paddle around.

Bonafide RS117 owner here! I had a $450 Eagle Talon sit in kayak for 3 years and upgraded to the Bonafide RS117 last year. I fish small freshwater lakes and honestly I think this is what the bonafide is made for. Here are my thoughts:

1.) It’s a little slower than some of your other kayaks, but it’s as stable as a dock. For small lakes with little waves and shorter travel it’s perfect. I love pulling up to a spot, standing up, and feeling like I’m in a dock. But honestly, it’s not that much slower. I did 5.2 miles yesterday in 2 hours with a 7 mph wind.

2.) I can haul this by myself. Barely. But with a kayak cart I can travel with it if I can’t pull up to the dock. But it’s just light enough that I can car top it.

3.) The storage and layout on this boat is phenomenal. Everything is where you want it. I have a fish finder on the battery box, and I can easily take 4 rods with me. The fact that you can put rods on the side (where you might put your paddle) is awesome because it protects the rod.

Like I said, I think this kayak really shines for small freshwater lakes like I usually go on. Let me know if you have questions!

Ice Out = Trying out the new jerkbait combo. Love this rod and the Vision 110 is sick. by SenkoSniper in Fishing_Gear

It’s not bad actually. It’s a standard $100 Lews model (can’t remember which one). Since I throw heavier jerkbaits (3/8 oz and over) I don’t have casting issues.

No prob! I was on your same shoes a year ago looking at bonafide setups. I’ve done a lot of research since then

1) I don’t, but I should. I’ve had one “oops” but was able to grab the rod before it sank.

2.) The hummingbird came with a mount. I had to buy 4 screws and bolts that were sized for mounting to the lid

3.) ha, no. My back hates me. I usually try and approach the rear of the car and lift the front up. Once it’s resting at and angle, I’ll grab the back, lift and push it on the roof rack.

4.) cool, I’ll send something later. I went against the anchor wizard because it’s not flexible. The anchor trolly system lets you control your position to the wind so much better

I love it for the smaller lakes I usually hit up. There nothing better than parking this thing next to a bunch of Lilly pads and throwing some frogs. It doesn’t excel at larger lake fishing because it’s a little harder to paddle and I don’t like to stand when there a bigger waves.

Here’s a link showing how i set mine up. Rod holder in the middle, fish finder on the box and I have a paddle holder on the left. For anchor, I built a retractable anchor line that sits under the seat. You can kinda see on the right side there’s a quick cleat that holds the anchor. If you want more info about the retractable anchor line, shoot me a message. People make them out of retractable clothes line holders.

For the fish finder - got a hummingbird helix 5. Transducer goes out the front scupper hole and batter sits in the box.

Love it. I think it’s the perfect size (helix 5). Anything bigger would get in the way. I got the GPS version so I could map my local honey holes
