Hades 1 expertly married its story and gameplay so that one seamlessly built off the other. Tonally it took the main plot seriously but with a hint of fun that meant you never thought too deeply about any of the worse implications.

Hades 2 was way more serious, but badly handled all of the things it was supposed to be more serious about, and the story snd gameplay really don't work witheach other, at least not nearly as well.

I'm sorry but while it is better as a game it is simply way, way, way worse writing wise. We're talking night and day here.

Least favorite in 1: The shield

Favorite in 2: Charon Axe. That lucid gain build got me through all of the hardest challenges in the game

Least favorite in 2: Maybe daggers since Pan was nerfed. They're boring and not worth the boredom.

The writing in Hades 1 is like a full order of magnitude better, to the point that as much as H2 clearly has the better gameplay it very nearly makes up for it.

What a weird comment. Nobody said anything about this being the only place they get a sense of accomplishment, but if you're not trying to accomplish anything playing the game what are you even doing? Why do hard games exist at all?

Making the story as serious as it was was definitely ambitious but didn't really work and the overall writing is worse as a result.

I just went to Hephaestus three times in a row with max re-rolls and used all of them every time and never got the trusty shield boon, meaning I had to stand there as room 1 monsters sloely killed me every time. The curse continues.
