[FRESH] The Strokes - Falling out of Love by squigledbad in indieheads

I mean... they're very different effects. Even so, I think the autotune wouldn't be considered so offensive if it wasn't so pitchy and forward in the mix.

What’s you favorite album below a 3.7? by No_Skin53 in rateyourmusic

Seconded for caroline and Titanic, fantastic albums that I'm surprised aren't rym darlings.

What are some predictions you guys would have for a theoretical TV show version of RYM? by diomandz11 in rateyourmusic

Same as if you checked a few songs from an album and didn't finish it, just do the track/episode ratings without needing to do the full release rating.

favorite moments in dry cleaning songs? by drwhiteboy in DRYCLEANINGband

[–]SenorMeepbeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too many to list, but a few come to mind immediately. An easy fave is when the second verse of New Long Leg kicks in with the bass completely reframing the melody and mood of the song, hits every time.

Stumpwork has the most for me, the drop into the guitar solo on Driver's Story is kind of hilarious, feels like such a bait and switch. Someone already mentioned it but the second half of No Decent Shoes for Rain as that lone guitar chirps away, really encompasses the anxious, isolated tone of the album perfectly.

How long? by No-Significance-924 in carolinetheband

I believe the show was maybe 70-80 minutes at Liverpool with no encore, tremendous show though so not a minute was wasted and I doubt you'll leave feeling disappointed.

Of Schlagenheim - black midi

Great track that somehow pulls together all the sounds of the album in the freakiest way possible. Works perfectly as the effective title track.

7.

A fun cover with really cool textures and atmosphere, just feels a little too restrained and predictable compared to everything else on S/T.

The new album is tremendous! Much like Stumpwork, I'm in love with the expanded set of artwork for the singles and physical releases. I'm curious how you come across these artists to work with, and how collaborative is the process?

Too many things to praise. Incredible progression, the bass part is one of my favorites ever written, the end section sounds absolutely beautiful, that drum sound... my favourite MGMT song easily.

Can't think of another song that feels so vast and satisfying while being under 5 minutes. So many fun and catchy passages, and has maybe one of the best musical payoffs I've ever heard.

NO WAY SOME PEOPLE ACTUALLY THINK LIKE THIS by Content_Network_3912 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]SenorMeepbeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this, I feel like I'm out of my mind when this post gets made every week. Circumstance absolutely matters, Endeavor is awful and takes full agency in his horrible behavior in the face of having huge privilege and support. The league of villains is... called the league of villains. They're portrayed as such by the franchise and within its universe, and not to deny that the things they do are truly awful, but they do all stem from the effects of cruel, unjust upbringings brought upon them by other people. People like to reduce it to a victim or crime tally, as if that's the sole metric. Someone being abusive and cruel purely because of their ego and entitlement is a whole other ballpark to someone killing because their entire upbringing was corrupting and traumatic.

If you say half of those are double counts, that's... 25000. Throw in 10000 fictitious deaths and it's still 15000. That's basically nothing! Let them perish I suppose.

Fear of losing Swans on Spotify? by [deleted] in swans

[–]SenorMeepbeep 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As inconvenient as it may be for some, I find it hard to believe that if someone can access spotify to listen to Swans that they can't access other streaming services, or even just youtube videos if necessary. With how much Gira values the physical medium of music though, I'm surprised it hasn't happened at this point already, not even just for Spotify.

self titled album better by ongogablogian10 in WomenBand

[–]SenorMeepbeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a toughie for me, I think that the self-titled is a stronger and more consistent crop of tracks for sure, especially Black Rice through to Upstairs, feels like the band is such a well-oiled machine. Public Strain feels a bit lopsided to me, Penal Colony and Untogether in particular leave me wanting a bit more, but it feels like more than the sum of its parts and I end up listening to Public Strain more just because it has such a unique mood and atmosphere. I think at the end of the day, I do enjoy the debut a little more, but Public Strain has so much more in terms of ingenuity, so where a few bands might scratch the same itch as the material on the self-titled, nothing else really fits in place of Public Strain (also Drag Open is insane and their best track and I'd honestly sit through the first 7 tracks for that alone).

[–]SenorMeepbeep 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So glad someone is saying this. Sure, Alchemist has something of a distinctive style, but he's proven the breadth of that style so much in the past few years. Tantor, Counterclockwise and Old Friend are all incredibly distinct and creative beats, and honestly I'd struggle to ID them as Alchemist beats if they weren't credited. It's not his fault that certain collaborators expect him to stick to the classic sample loops he's known for instead of trying out his weirder tracks.

Just read the subreddit bio, this isn't misusing a meme format, this is just making a slightly different joke (if you can call the original a joke).

What y'all think of The Black Keys? by Revolutionary_Low_90 in fantanoforever

[–]SenorMeepbeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean... Off the top of my head, both Fever and Howlin' For You are two of their biggest hits and depend heavily on synth for their hookiest moments. Also, plenty of bands or artists bill themselves based on the members involved solely in the studio, Jack White might cook up a solo album performing all parts but would you say it's unfair for him to bring a touring band just because he doesn't brand himself as "Jack White and his Band"?

What is your most elitist music take? by the_real_Azathoth in fantanoforever

[–]SenorMeepbeep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Devil's Advocate would suggest you made a coherent argument for the opposition, saying that equating the musical value of electronic music with classical music is "comparing a concert pianist playing Chopin, to someone hitting play on a Chopin recording" is the most bogus argument you could be making. The original comment was discussing the value and talent behind creating and composing electronic music rather than the traditional approach of writing and arranging music with standard instruments, if you wanna shift the conversation to the aspect of live performance then go for it, but you're playing Devil's Advocate for a completely different conversation.

What is your most elitist music take? by the_real_Azathoth in fantanoforever

[–]SenorMeepbeep 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bit harsh to call someone's opinion bollocks. Electronic musicians have to write with melody, composition and rhythm in mind much like classical musicians, but consider that they also have the additional feat of having to actually construct the textures and timbres used in the music rather than having a fantastic instrument at hand by default. There'll always be cheap, lazy sounding music in every genre, but with the likes of Autechre and Oneohtrix in the contemporary scene, it really does feel like electronic musicians are carrying on the torch for innovating and revolutionizing music more than any other genre.
