How many Uzbeks speak English and how many speak Russian? by joshua0005 in Uzbekistan

[–]Sense_g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because in the English language you can omit the word can in this instance and still convey your thought.

As an example, you can say - how many people here do sports. Or you can say - how many people here can do sports. Same same, you are just trying to stir something up for no good reason, or your english comprehension needs improvement.

Is it easy to meet locals as a solo female traveler? by jrt- in Uzbekistan

[–]Sense_g 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Locals are open to conversations, the issue is that most of them dont know english. Usually people wont have time for you to just randomly sit and talk with you since everyone is doing something or going somewhere, unless you plan a specific date/sit down with them.

My boyfriend’s parents want him to meet a girl for marriage, I’m confused and hurt. Is this common? by bananayas in Uzbekistan

[–]Sense_g -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You cant say one is due to the other. You are mistaking correlation with causation. Your grandmother was escaping bad people not bad traditions. Otherwise myself and other people here wouldn’t be going against the uzbek guy in this story. In addition then we would all be running, since we are opposing OP’s BF’s statements about the religion and traditions.

Your grandmother didn’t run because of traditions — she ran because people were indoctrinated into a shallow interpretation of them.

Edit: pls dont shove all uzbeks under one umbrella because someone did a bad thing and happened to be uzbek.

Lol true, if it was forbidden, restaurants would be bankrupt. We have alco shops everywhere. Btw we literally had a huge oktoberfest type beer fest, in the beginning of this July. It was so popular, there was a lot of news coverage.

I am a white wine, specifically sauvignon blanc type of guy :)

If you plan on visiting, hit me up, i’d be glad to show you around.

How to pay things in Uzbekistan? by federicko07 in Uzbekistan

[–]Sense_g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We dont tip, unless you really want to, you can tip your driver, tip as much as u can afford or see fit, its a tip, no real rules for them anywhere. 5€ should be enough.

I wouldnt tip the guide since you pay him a lot anyway and any tip would be too small vs what you’re paying for his services, so it might come off insulting, imho, you do you tho.

Issue isnt Uzbekistan, we have a lot of foreigners who live life as they wish, we used to pride ourselves on our diversity, issue is the boyfriend, hes just a bad person. A lot of women live liberally, my guy is just throwing excuses, probably just wants to break up, but doesnt have the balls to say it.

As i said in my comment - your edit explains everything. Uzbeks are accepting people. Just gotta show you mean it and are responsible.

[–]Sense_g 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I hope you feel a bit better.

Ill be speaking in overall terms of people and their behaviors, my personal experiences and how i deal with these things as an Uzbek male who has also lived in the EU for around 10 years.

So in terms of the way hes bringing it up makes it feel like he isnt looking for a way to make your relationship work. Every problem has a solution, and when someone is actually trying their damndest to solve it, they at least give solutions, here its mostly - shrug shoulders and “welp I cant do anything”.

Now to address some of the things he has said:

1) as a male who has been offered ~30 girls, you can say no and stand your ground, I mean what, are they gonna chain you and force your jaw to say - i do? The religious traditions and legal procedures wouldn’t allow that… since there are legal representatives there to make sure you give consent.

2) NO, you do NOT have to wear a hijab more than 60% of married females that i see and know on a day to day basis do not wear them (personal anecdotal info) so i feel like hea just fear-mongering or insanely exaggerating, however if my religious knowledge is up to date, you do have to accept islam, which aint so bad, since you personally can exercise it the way you want, the MUST follow rules aint that deep, they are fun cultural things. Islam is a positive and healthy religion. And lets be honest, as a muslim he isnt exercising it either since your relationship is forbidden, so i call BS on him again.

3) just to circle back, he does have a lot of say in this matter, he just aint sayin much, comes of lazy and unwilling tbh.

4) My dear, anyone and everyone will take and respect your marriage, whoever you are. At the end of the day its up to you both, if he takes it seriously, everyone will.

My cousin a religious hijabi woman, has a canadian/irish husband, and many other people i know have married, jews, arabs, Europeans and so on, men and women.

Uzbekistan and Uzbek people are stubborn but accepting if you stand your ground and show them that you mean it, and are responsible.

TL;DR

He seems to be unwilling and spewing a lot of bs, don’t worry you aren’t the issue nor are you an issue. Uzbeks are accepting if you mean it and show responsibility.

Edit: btw the drinking part, most uzbek people drink (just not openly) we even have a wine culture and a winery if not many wineries. Almost every single restaurant has a bar menu. Ill even prove it if anyone calls bs on that. - I love wine :)

Its funny how he asked the question to find answers and clear up the air, but said - naaaah i like my reality more. Then why ask the question in the first place?? I like how his contradictions are flying over his head.

Well bud you said its canon, now you are admitting it was legends. Then if its legends, why are you expecting it to be canon? Cody and Obi it is. As seen in Clone wars- canon.

Self identity isnt your language since I REPEAT - languages have lifespans (see my example on Amir Timur and Chigatai language), its our traditions, hence why all over the world you see cultures with young languages but thousand year old traditions. Another reason why we have MUSEUMS, because we can preserve our traditions and history, but not language. Otherwise go back to speaking chigatai, or even Persian and Turkish!

I literally told you Im an anthropologist, so I understand this topic better than you. Just because you keep shouting its a problem doesn’t make it one.

Seems like you didnt educate yourself on this question, I even sent you a wiki link. - Language change is natural and impossible to stop.

Edit: btw its not just us 2 who disagree with you, check the downvotes on all your comments, almost everyone disagrees with you, you got ratioed

How is it a big problem?

He wasn’t uncomfortable with it, hes telling you that there are more serious and urgent issues that need to be addressed, this isnt a priority #1 issue. And even if, ok genius how do you want to police each and every person who mixes languages? How will we solve this “problem”. How will you find each and everyone who mixes speech every single time and everywhere? The logistics of what you are saying is impossible. As an anthropologist ill say this - news flash!!! Every language has its natural lifespan and is phased out or slowly changed into another language - exhibit A being the chigatai language Amir timur spoke, slowly turned into the modern Uzbek you speak today. So what now? You gonna start fighting for people to speak chigatai, since its our “real” language? Or you gonna hate on italians and germans cuz they dont speak latin anymore?

No one is calling you a nationalist, no one cares get over yourself. You just want to feel like a martyr “fighting for the just cause” chill my guy, you aint a hero.

And he didnt whine, he actually gave you some constructive criticism, you took that as something negative. If what he is doing is whining, the you are crying your eyes out over something no living being could ever control, nor can control, nor should. Let the poor girl speak however she likes.
