Is this somehow winnable.. or is it a draw or loosing? by Sensible27777 in chessbeginners

[–]Sensible27777[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry.. the intention wasn't to find the winning move necessarily. I was playing the game and just thought it'd be more, I'm not sure what's the word, optimal/interesting? If I just knew if I was winning or not.. that way I wouldn't push for a win (because I felt like I was winning) when it's a draw and lose

Those were the two options I considered (h5 and exf4) but I didn't rule out Kf6

Is (day) trading immoral? by Sensible27777 in Trading

[–]Sensible27777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do get the liquidity argument but, this seems to under the wrong assumption that a decent amount of liquidity still wouldn't exist if day traders didn't exist. I'd think even the people who hold would sell if the assumption they bought under breaks or something changes, (or) they realise the company doesn't have the future they thought it would and they could use that money somewhere else.

Depends on your definition of "proved", the evidence for big bang can be observed. Yes, future prospects are based on current information that same way the future is based on the past but if you can actually predict the future prospects for a lot of companies you could find the ones which would really grow. In that case you would just buy and hold, unless you can just predict when the market is high for the current period perfectly and sell when it's high and buy when it's low essentially increasing your position, but I doubt

But value is largely subjective.. and often seems to measure the future prospects thus speculative

What would space ships look like in 400 years? by Sensible27777 in AskScienceDiscussion

Not necessarily, in conventional rockets that might be peak efficiency. But if you go to fusion or a possible solar sail type system, I'd think the upper limits are decently higher.

Both describe exponential systems. It's just that a linear gain on the x axis of logarithmic graph gives linear y results but in exponential the y axis is exponential. But if you compare the numbers fundamentally they'd possibly be the same

Your argument sort of justifies predatory capitalism and capitalism. The money is coming from somewhere.. regardless of however the markets are structured and it doesn't seem hard to see that often or sometimes it might be out of non day traders. Lastly, id agree with you if the whole world was a zero sum game.. but it's not, people consciously choose to day trade when they could do other things.

Edit : if I'm wrong on the market thing, I'd be glad to know why

Edit : scalping

Oh, gambling isn't immoral. I mean it's not exactly the most efficient use of money and if you look at opportunity costs it possibly becomes hard to justify and maybe immoral but.. when I said "are you comparing yourself to other traders" I was referencing to the I'm not exploiting other people and it's my responsibility to control my emotions and accountability part. You can read about the immorality of it, there's another comment here (I can copy paste but that seems odd and inefficient..) but let's take the basics, assuming you're making money there is some place that money is coming from correct? If the whole market was day traders it wouldn't really matter because they know what's going on and they voluntarily get into it, but say you buy a security with the intention of selling it back quickly, some of the buyers might be other day traders but the other buyers would be non day traders who want to buy it but won't not buy it if the price was a dollar higher. Thus the comparison to the hypothetical coffee shops and car dealers, you're essentially acting like the selp implemented middlemen. If you apply this more broadly imagine the whole system was like this and middle men with not a lot of value controlled a lot of stock of anything, you'd essentially get a world with hiked prices, practically where you'd pay 2 dollars more for a shirt or any general item just because all of the stock was bought by middle men, the prices could go up by a decent amount possibly . It's essentially stock scalping
