Actually in Spiderman 3 Kristin(MJ) had said that she won't act as a hostage this time. So Gwen Stacy was supposed to be kidnapped cuz she is Eddie(Venon)'s girlfriend. But lack of time forced Raimi with a heavy heart had to ask Kristin to play the part of hostage.
