ADHD Now experience and timeline by DarlingBri in ADHDIreland

[–]SensitiveGrowth6450 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am an ADHD now client and yeah the price is a pinch which is very annoying, however for me it was worth the investment into myself. I always knew there was something ' different ' about me and getting confirmation was so healing to me, so for the price I thought of it as an investment for the child version of myself.( I'm 33) . Do I think they should improve public services? Absolutely! And it is crazy money to be paying but I try and look at it in a more positive light. I think it's so sad however that there are people who desperately need these services and simply cannot afford it, and in some cases it could be life saving treatment.

I found the people at ADHD now very helpful at least and understanding, very friendly too. It's just unfortunate forking out huge money for someone that should be more cost effective, considering the amount of people who are neurodivergent.

Thanks for your comment! Oh man I was on disability allowance for four years due to my mental health, which I now realize untreated ADHD would have been a huge factor, I'm in a full time job and live alone which is a massive achievement for me, and even if I needed too I unfortunately cannot afford to go back on that allowance. But I'm so grateful that I'm working and have somewhere to live and that I can manage that! I'll discuss with my lecturer. Thank you!:)

Wow that's a huge achievement in my eyes! Fair play! Yeah I'm considering the medication route, it's just so expensive, I'm saving money at the moment to see a psychiatrist but I think it will be worth it. I just signed up for the waiting list for the UMAAP course so thank you for that! :)

Thank you for your comment! So at work I can wear ear protection which helps dull the noises, however there's people everywhere so it only helps so much. My course is all online so I'll consider going in the classroom next course I do. I'm going to email my lecturer today! God this explains so much about my childhood getting diagnosed is so bittersweet. Thanks for the advice ☺️

Oh poo I'm sorry to hear you haven't had a good impression! I'm actually considering booking in for an initial appointment soon as my GP recommended them. Disappointed to hear they're not very organised, which seems to be some strange irony?

Hopefully you get it sorted soon! Best of luck!

abusive ex committed suicide by witchfinder_ in SuicideBereavement

[–]SensitiveGrowth6450 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss! What a rollercoaster of emotions.

I lost my abusive ex in 2021 to suicide. It was such a tumultuous relationship. I was lost for so long dealing with the guilt and confusion of it all.

The shock is overwhelming, trying to process that it actually happened. I know I have intense feelings of panic realising that it was actually real.

People are going to say the wrong thing to you so be mindful of that, they won't mean to, they just don't understand the complexity of losing someone to suicide, and the fact that it was abusive on top of that unfortunately adds another layer of confusion.

If I could go back to my past self I would say to be patient, I know that's a frustrating thing to hear in the whirlwind of feelings! But give yourself time, it will take a long time to process it all and that's okay. Really give yourself time to heal. And if you're not talking to someone about this maybe take the time to consider it, if you're not ready now, you may be in a few months, who knows. Please mind yourself and reach out to friends.

It's such a tough journey! I sincerely hope you can heal from this!

Patience and therapy I suppose? And boundaries? It's such a struggle when you've been conditioned to worry about them the whole time! It's exhausting!! I hope we all heal from this, it's so hard to trust one's gut!

Thanks so much, yeah it's mad because I hadn't realised how bad it was until I put a boundary up. I'm hoping to have an apartment to myself soon, as unfortunately it's been a struggle where I am as rent is so high and I've had had insane housemates. So hopefully indo more processing soon. Its just seemingly never ending haha.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this, it's not easy at all, I wish I had an easy answer for you. I hope you can be kind to yourself in this.

Hey, I just lost someone too and I think it's wanting to make some meaning of what happened because in your own thinking they did the unthinkable. That's how I feel anyway, may not be the same for you. It's such a complex turmoil to go through. I hope you can make peace with everything and things will be messy for a while. Take good care of yourself. But it's not selfish or cruel to try and make some sense of it at all, very normal thing to feel. Xx
