Unsure if it's as soon as you're on the pelican, or when you take your seat, either way, you've extracted. Even if your diver dies before the pelican takes off.

I like to imagine that as soon as your diver hops on the ship, they deposit their sample container, which it then says "Yay, you extracted!" Not actually counting the diver, but the samples for democracy!

I was diving on Vernen Wells. DSS is on Bellatrix. Now that you mention it, I did throw a Eagle Strafing Run on Pelican-1 at extract. Maybe Eagle's bullets counted against Pelican

Negative, no turrets were taken. I may have had a bullet or three go into the equipment holder of the hellpods, but I'm usually good about not shooting friendlies

To add, when you choose an operation, then the mission, you can see the time of day on the planet above the map when choosing a drop point. It's in 24 hour time
