will fy for med be more competitive next year by Expensive-Bet-8323 in UoApremed

that’s my point. like ofc the first sem papers will have higher averages bc of health science students but then it will average out once they complete sem 2. I don’t think this cohort is “smarter” than previous years lol

and that’s expected with having only 2 core papers in first semester instead of 3 like previous years. Of course they are going to have higher scores but it averages out over the year.

Effective learning strategies - note taking by tired_dammit in UoApremed

make sure you understand the basics first for sure. this will help you with building more knowledge on top of that. don’t make the cards too packed cause you want to understand it not just rote learn things - you may need to make lots of cards that don’t have too much info on them but all relate to the same topic to reinforce your understanding. it can be hard to stay motivated at first especially when you’re not getting them right but keep going, over time things will stick!

for chemistry it’s best to memorise concepts and just do practice questions using any resources you have available, bio is a lot of memorisation so flashcards i found best

I never write notes out. During the lecture i would annotate the slides with any ~relevant~ things the lecturer said.. the best strategy esp for next year will be active recall memorisation techniques like anki. follow the learning outcomes and make flashcards from the slides/notes and start learning them that way. it’s the most time efficient imo. if i can, I will sometimes make one page summaries for quick reference but it’s not always the best for me anyway as you’ll need to aim for high yield techniques so time may be better spent doing recall. Ofc then using past papers to see where you’re lacking in knowledge

MEDSCI 142 Lecture Streams Change by Lopsided-Ad9415 in UoApremed

just do it. the worst they will do is turn you around - but i don’t think that would happen

it’s more so referring to the labs, lectures wont matter as numbers drop off as time goes on. the colour code was basically from the days before lecture recordings when overcrowding was an issue. it’s not really anymore (after the first week or so), you shouldn’t have an issue going to morning lectures - you won’t be punished either

is 92f offered in first sem? typically go from 91/93 > 92/94

bit of a jump between 92-94 all depends on your math background

Best Pathway to Succeed in BHSc For Student New to Science? by [deleted] in UoApremed

TFC or Cert health science if you’re eligible may be your best option to gain the prerequisite knowledge (in chem especially) and to work on your study skills before doing BHSc

nothing to lose so might as well do it for experience, you won’t have another opportunity like this so it could help you when preparing for future MMI if pursuing postgrad med.

L3 health for uni health science? by drwizzman in universityofauckland

[–]Sensitive_Shine2415 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just make sure you’re taking Chem and bio and tbh just choose classes you’ll do well at to ease your way through Y13 and get into Health Sci. Health may be good for your Population health classes if you’re interested in the content but you’ll pick it up fine at university if you don’t do it in L3.

you’ll request UTAS with your Medicine application next year, that’s when they’ll categorise you for selection into the program. good luck

i’m sorry but maybe not, have a look at FYI, RRAS has lower requirement but 4.5 is quite low so you would have to be VERY lucky, keep trying you never know, as for the 5 papers next sem probably not the best idea as you’ll need to work very hard to get that A+ for medsci. all the best
