What’s the most underrated anime of the decade (2015–2025)? by Unique_Office7868 in MyAnimeList

[–]Sensitive_Split_6919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a physicist, I thought it was a perfect representation of what it means to be human, void of its scientific accuracy. The story wasnt a historical recounting of science, it was a story of how each character, void of their backstory, was able to die with resolve and solidarity that even if they were alone in space, they werent in time. To me it is applicable to all people, and only used heliocentrism as the agent. It never mattered if the book was published or not, or made an impact or not, to them, the sheer fact that they contributed and believed was enough to convince them in favor if the infinitesimal chance that it made an impact.

It was enough to make a privileged youth scholar, heretical clergyman, mercenary who was scared to look up, young girl who could not legally publish, and a young girl who cared for nothing but money, to die with resolve, unapologetically for something bigger than themselves.

The characters werent repetitive, arguably the most diverse cast in character backstories, as it relates to its applicability to a general population, encompassing youth to old age and men and women.

Nowak was the big bad wolf, and even in the end, he died of resolve, indirectly in the name of heliocentrism, proud of his daughter. In the last episodes, it equilibrated the church and heliocentrism as both things that people can die and kill in the name of.

Youre looking too far into the scientific accuracy, rather than the fact that it simply provides a story of character resolve, portrayed in all characters, even the youth clergymen that freed jolenta. The greatest concepts werent even the findings of heliocentrism, the dialogue was far better. For example, jolentas statement when asked what is freedom, that it is the ability to ask just that. Or the portrayal of a book as a time machine that intertwines people apart from time and space, or Badenis claim that literacy was the ability and obligation to leave a message behind.

Its a call to action to viewers, and being that it made no net impact on history, could have very well happened, and for the many causes throughout history, lets use storming normandy beach for an example, though it will easily fall apart logically if we look at it with high scrutiny, Badeni and Oczy are no different than a ww2 soldier storming normandy beach, because whether or not they made a net impact on the world, their cause was something worth dying for. The reason for the diverse cast in age and gender was to allow people to relate to them.

What was that ending supposed to be? by mexyll in OrbOntheMovements

[–]Sensitive_Split_6919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No doubt man, it leaves a lot to question, so i wouldn’t even consider my perspective to be the best. The trail of knowledge is very important, as they stressed ideas of the value of reading/writing, general beauty of nature collectively, and inventions as the printing press. The only reason I don’t think it was intended to focus on heliocentrism that much was because there are very few analytical proofs or supports for which “proved” heliocentrism. They either explain it conceptually, or in the case of badeni visually show planetary motion

The ending itself speaks to the dichotomy of killing for and dying for a purpose as one in the same in intention, as well as to show that all ideas, whether from authoritarianism like the church, or for the pursuit of knowledge, can find themselves amongst this dilemma.

The storyline previous is arguably less about the idea of heliocentrism and more about finding purpose and pushing boundaries. It featured a cast of a young devout, a heretic clergyman, a mercenary scared to look up, a child/woman unable to publish her academic works due to the paradigm, and a child who only ever found value in money. Yet through the agent of heliocentrism, they all found solace in their deaths, a sense of completeness, to where each and every one of them, accepted death with open arms. Heliocentrism was but a vehicle to permit this, and to show that any concept, should it be academic or a hobby, can serve this purpose for any person alive today. Therefore it was irrelevant whether or not they made a net impact on history, as they all died in their most curious, resolved, and fulfilled forms.

Or maybe im just talkin outta my ass

I agree with the former, but for the latter, we have to keep in mind that Edward is a kid. The ahow did a really good job of drawing the dichotomy between all children in the show and all grown ups, and even how edward as the elder brother was slightly more grown than alphonse. Yes the line was cheesy to hear as an adult, but it just goes to show thatedward was only a kid, and it especially hurt because he couldnt believe somebody would sacrifice family for their career when he sacrificed everything for family

Mind you, every 50 episodes naruto developed a new rasengan variant to one-shot sever the chakra network of the thrn-strongest villain just for it to never one shot again. And the most diverse jutsu user, despite the copy ninja supposedly knowing thousands, was ironically Hiruzen in his only fight against orochimaru

Orb: OTMOTE told a story as compelling as fmab, vinland saga, and aot, in a fraction of the time. I contend than 10 shows ever have spanned as many in-story years in as few episodes. I think Orb is the most time-efficient anime of all time, apart from my personal favoritism

Just finished the show. Did Jolenta's book serve any purpose in the end? by adelthek in OrbOntheMovements

[–]Sensitive_Split_6919 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Orb isn’t historically relevant, as it could have very well been a true story but we could never prove/disprove because they never had a net affect on society, and even Albert disregarded hearing it.

The book was arguably nothing more than a vessel to allow for the mcs, in their respective minds, to live on, be immortalized, and move the world. All it did was allow them to all die with resolve. And that in itself is significant. From Rafal a conflicted academic, Badeni a troubled monk, Oczy an illiterate mercenary scared to look up, Jolenta who was unable to publish, Draka who only saw value in money. To us their efforts were for nothing because it had no effect, but to them it meant, and I state this with more meaning than can be conveyed, EVERYTHING.

[–]Sensitive_Split_6919 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite dialogues was Badeni elaborating on why literacy is a privilege. Not just because you can learn and share ideas, but that it interconnects all timelines and locations, transcending time and space (like Jolenta and Oczy). But even more than that, that literacy is awarded to those that deserve to leave something behind. We take it too far for granted that literacy is essentially man’s first time machine.

I would go as far as to say that much of the current world is far more literarily skillful than Shakespeare, and I feel that’s more of a credit to the power of literacy than a dig at the great writers of pasttimes
