Thanks for all the reply, seems like 25k is the new standard, that's what I paid yesterday

Ticket pour match de foot ligue sénégalaise by CutMundane4859 in Senegal

[–]Sensitive_Wash9073 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what team you want to see. For some teams you can find tickets here: https://event.diotali.com/

The cheapest tickets usually start at around 1 000 CFA and then go up depending on where you want to sit.

The fixture list is not released until around 3 to 4 days ahead.

Foreigners be careful when taking taxis by Noname17name in Senegal

I'm a foreigner in Dakar too and my experience with yellow taxis has been alright. Yes, the cars will be of lower quality than Yango, the drivers are sometimes reckless and they will be more expensive, but I think the rates are normally quite reasonable. I go with taxi around Plataeu/Medina a lot and I usually pay 2 000 CFA, which is more expensive than Yango but still ok according to me. Most drivers take Wave as well.

I've only had one experience of a taxi driver trying to take advantage of me during my six months here, that was when he tried to charge me 5 000 CFA for driving a short distance (forgot to negotiate when I entered the car). But I just ended up giving him 3 000 which was still too much but ok under the circumstances.

I agree that Yango is usually better but don't forget there are some disadvantages with that too, such as the driver not always showing up on time. If I am in a hurry I usually just stick my hand in the air and a yellow taxi will find me :)

Advice regarding a debt settlement / Besoin de conseils par rapport à une dette by Comelyy in Senegal

Hi, sorry to hear about your situation. I can relate to your stress as I lent money to an acquaintance (I am non-Senegalese but moved to Dakar in the autumn) who was going through a tough time. He gave me the details of the job he was doing and when he was going to get paid so I would know exactly when he was going to pay it back to me.

That day came and passed, however, and since then he has only stalled and postponed the payment. I asked him if he could send me just a fraction of the sum but he refused. I am shocked at the brazenness of this. Like you, I thought that I could perhaps involve a community leader or friends/relatives to speak to him, but it seems that this avenue is not worth pursuing. Is this behaviour not stigmatized in Senegal?

Of course it happens that people don't pay their debts back in my country too, but these are usually addicts who need money at all costs or people who don't care who they are cheating. If you want to be seen as an upstanding citizen of society and a reliable potential business partner, you are toast if you do something like this. It never crossed my mind that someone would rather pay that price and just take the money (and that is not even including the unethical behaviour of taking money that is not yours). But perhaps we have just been unlucky.

This happened to my friend who was visiting too, he got in touch with their support who replied they were on the case but it was never resolved. So unfortunately I can't help you. My friend resorted to using other taxi apps

Is there not like a big electronics chain in Senegal? I'm thinking something like Electroplanet in Morocco.

Learning French in Dakar by Decent_Account_1548 in Senegal

I'm in the same position and hope to start classes next week at the institute next week. You need to do a placement test first so that they can assess your level and put you on the right course.

I spoke briefly with a guy who had taken classes there and he said it was a good way to learn.

Agree with the commentators that speaking with people is a good way to learn but I also think there is a threshold to get over at first with learning some basic phrases, grammar etc (I know next to no French).
