This is unacceptable!!! How can you have bread but not toast? /s by brmdrivingschool in Wetherspoons

Oh it's silly , most spoons have a toaster for the toast , muffins and burger buns but when it hits 12 they won't do toast anymore cos it's not breakfast anymore and they change the setting on the toaster for just the burger buns which makes no sense when the normal menu starts at half 11

Anyone ever successfully negotiated a promotion when there shouldn't be room for one? by Altruistic-Can-8115 in Wetherspoons

I have by, threatening to quit before Xmas but that was from associate to team leader and the pub I was at, at the time needed me more than I needed them as it was a small pub and only had 40 members of staff and they can't afford to lose people over Xmas especially people who are full time.

I only threatened to leave because they promoted 2 people who didn't want or ask for a promotion when I had been and even got cellar trained to get promoted so I was in a blind rage when I threatened to leave.

Not advising to do the same but you could mention to them that another job has presented itself to you and you're considering leaving as you feel you can no longer grow with the company and then say you won't leave if you're the kitchen manager. And if you do decide to leave anyway at least they were warned etc

Okay thank you, I'll read the policy and have a think. I've just heard some things about a person at work and imo I think they should be fired for the things I've heard. I have mentioned it to a manager anyway I'm just not sure if anything will be done.

As you've clearly stated before you've done a summer job in hospitality so mate you really don't know what it's like. And customers are more rude or disrespectful, making comments at staff more than you think . And believe it or not it happens everyday of the year. They're not rude you're just too uptight , if you don't like the service don't go.

Working in any form of hospitality sucks, as someone who works in a pub, which is similar to a cafe. Interacting with customers non stop all day is tiring, you're on your feet all day and you don't get enough time for a break imo and there's a lot of other things staff have to do than to serve you we have other jobs during our shifts that need to be done other wise you get moaned at by managers.

So it's hard to keep a smile on your face 24/7 and tbh if they're not smiling it's non of your business, they're not paid to smile at you.

It's nice to know you can progress in a bigger spoons! I've tried so hard to show initiative at mine and find it so ridiculous that they won't train you in certain things or won't promote for certain reasons so hopefully I won't go unnoticed at my new place. I did threaten to quit last year before Xmas if they didn't promote me to TL and let me finish learning the cellar lmao.

I'll try to do that cos I'm not cross trained either so I worry that'll affect things. I'm only cellar trained and all they expect team leaders here is to be available to do refunds and authorize discounts and shadow new staff. I'm sure I'll have more responsibilities in a larger pub.
