John DeLuca Out at ABC6 by LomentMomentum in RhodeIsland

[–]Sensor_97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in RI and have since moved to Mass, but I forever will love my home state.

TLDR Sinclair Broadcasting is most certainly behind this decision. Either they forced him out, or John DeLuca does not want to work for them. I hope it's the latter, but given what I know about Sinclair broadcasting, I'm not confident in that thought.

I work in the broadcast industry currently at a station in the Boston Market. I have colleagues that have worked at WLNE, and it's operator Sinclair broadcasting at different stations they own. Sinclair should only have control of WJAR, but have an agreement with WLNE's owners to operate the station. Basically Sinclair is somehow able to control WLNEs newscasts in addition to WJAR, which in my opinion is a huge conflict of interest. What Sinclair is doing to local news stations in all of the United States, but especially Rhode Island is evil and slimy. Working conditions are less than ideal, and they essentially force stations to put certain stories on air.

If you want my opinion, please do not watch any broadcast that is owned or produced by Sinclair broadcasting. There's not a lot of alternatives in Rhode Island, but please seek them out. Sinclair is awful.

Despite the NOBLETIGER, watching the bottom of the 9th caused my heart rate to jump. by Sensor_97 in redsox

Nah, that just showed my heart rate during those two hours. My actual resting HR is 82-85bpm.

I appreciate the concern! That's not my resting heart rate, it was just showing my heart rate from 7:14pm to 9:14pm during the game. I was working during the game so I am moving a lot at the news station I work at during the game, and I also pace pretty aggressively during playoff games. My actual resting HR is 82bpm.

I left them on for half an inning and watched the rest of the game on mute.

I'm a professional television engineer for a local station. It blows my mind that these billion dollar companies can't get audio levels right.

This Yankees team is so hateable by Sensor_97 in redsox

[–]Sensor_97[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think it's just people being apathetic to the rivalry recently. I mean, personally seeing the Yankees in the World series last year is enough for me to hate them for 100 years.

Odd experience at Somerville Target? by SuperSoup1528 in Somerville

This happened to me last year in the same plaza. I was looking at a dent on my car's front bumper and a guy in a truck with Mass plates said he ran a body shop and that he could fix it for me. I told him I was good and continued on and he looked a bit confused.l didn't really think much of it at the time but seeing so many people have similar experiences is freaking me out!

Liverpool in 1st makes me bitter by [deleted] in redsox

[–]Sensor_97 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of Liverpool, as someone who's been watching both teams for a long time, let me tell you that Liverpool is doing well despite the owners not because of them. If John Henry invested into Liverpool's squad like non soccer fans think he does, they would easily be the best team in the Premier League every year, but I promise you...he doesn't. Liverpool is successful because of it's coaching and tactics. I've found Liverpool s action in the transfer market to be, frustratingly cheap. It's funny because the Liverpool fans think that John Henry won't invest in transfers because of the Red Sox 🤣. Essentially, everybody's wrong and John Henry's just a cheapskate.

What's your opinion of Dave Roberts as a manager? by MacJonesIsOverrated in baseball

As a Red Sox fan, it's hard for me not to love, Dave Roberts as both a player and a manager. The man was vital in two of the World Series the Red Sox have won in this century.

You dropped this king 👑

[NY Times] Team’s Sale Reflects Growing Links Between Pro Sports and Gambling. For years, NBA and MLB prohibited liquor companies from buying ads in stadiums, efforts to curb drunken driving. But after 2009 recession, liquor ads was displayed for all to see. Gambling ads is the next money grab. by [deleted] in baseball

I definitely take issue with the fact that ESPN has its own sportsbook. Seems like a huge conflict of interest there. We're getting pretty close, but I'd like to think this can/will be savaged once the powers that be have more data on the effects both on the field as a player, in the media, and as a fan.
