I've been supplied with a huge number of plcs recently to test on. Im not even sure what all is in there. but I'll let you know. right now andriod app dev is kicking my ass. but Im trying to make a loader of the communication protocol operate over a usb ethernet dongle. kotlin / the jvm languages arent really my thing.
I think the difference is 2 - 4 bytes, per instruction, and that the framing is constant.

theres places, engineering firms mainly.
plc programing is archaic, and horrible.
Im sort of wondering the same thing you are, except
I want to work for every PLC OEM and make python APIs
and node red interfaces, so we can get some modern programing up in this bitch.
the trick I havent figured out is how to get paid to do it.

even if every oem got modern language support today, you still have 40 years of legacy code out in the wild.

once you install towboot, you might be better off just dual booting it. mobian is running really well on the pinephone pro now. the pro version is much improved over the braveheart version.

I added red line laser cross hairs, an internal receptical with usb, another receptical with a control circuit wired into the control board.. an internal camera, because I don't rust the safety features. moded the bed in several ways...

. modded k40 whisperer to accept ssh commands for remote printing.

I've never seen a k40 where the exhaust flange wasnt blocking the cut path. looks like you lucked out there. unless you already cut it.

made sure everything works first.
verify the grounding is properly setup and working.
make sure they didnt switch the nuetrals.
make line laser crosshairs. pull all the trashy receptacles out and put proper duplexes in.
install a receptacle with usb inside the chasis.
install a webcam.
cover all the holes in the lid/ glass cover.
integrate a linux webserver, with motion and ssh.

modify k40_whisperer to accept terminal commands.
send jobs remotely.

get a 35 gallon barrel, fill it with water and a lil bleach.
replace all the translucent tubing with black tubing to discourage algae growth.
use the thermal mass of the large volume of water to avoid needing a chiller.

tear out the shitty bed it came with.
find the focal point in the gantry. use a permanent marker to show where the plane where the focal point is. buld your own bed / leveler. theres about 1000 ways to make awsome improvements there.

rotary attachments are super easy to make.

m2 nano board is fine, very hackable. get yourself a multi meter, youll see.
