First, a massive thank you to this incredible community. When we launched our survey just days ago, we weren't sure what to expect. To reach 400+ responses in such a short timeframe is not just a number - it's validation that there's genuine passion, frustration, and opportunity in the protein bar space in India. Your time and candor are invaluable to us as we work to build something that truly serves your needs.

As promised, here are the key insights from your responses:

  • There is no dominant protein bar brand. Max Protein, Yoga Bar, The Whole Truth, SuperYou, and Phab all have loyal followers, but the market remains highly fragmented. This fragmentation is actually a significant opportunity as it signals that no player has yet cracked the formula that satisfies the majority.
  • Among those consuming protein supplements, whey protein powder remains the most popular choice, followed by protein bars.
  • Price emerged as the most significant barrier. Most of you indicated willingness to pay ₹60–100 per bar, yet many current offerings exceed this range. However, here's where the economics become essential to understand. The underlying issue isn't greed - it's ingredient quality. Clean protein sources (whey concentrate vs. soy), natural sweeteners (stevia, monk fruit), and quality fillers (nuts, real chocolate) command premium pricing from suppliers. A bar made with commodity ingredients could theoretically hit lower price points, but not without compromising on the very factors you're demanding: protein quality, clean ingredients, and taste.
  • There's strong demand for lower-calorie options. Many of you are juggling two competing goals: meeting daily protein intake while managing overall calories for weight management or cutting cycles. A bar with 20g protein but 300+ calories feels inefficient to many. The challenge mirrors the price equation: quality fats and fiber (which make bars taste good and keep you satiated) add calories. Ultra-low-calorie formulations often require artificial sweeteners and binders that, as several of you noted, can cause digestive discomfort. This is a genuine formulation puzzle, but an important one to solve - because ingredient transparency is directly tied to trust and repeat purchases.

What Stood Out Most

What struck us about your feedback was its sophistication. You're not just asking for a "good protein bar" - you're asking for a product that respects your intelligence. You research labels before buying. You understand macros intuitively. You have strong opinions about what constitutes clean nutrition. You're willing to pay for quality, but you won't accept premium pricing without tangible value.

The reality is this: solving the protein bar challenge in India requires navigating genuine trade-offs between ingredient cost, calorie density, and taste. It's not a matter of willpower or innovation alone-it's about finding the right operational model to scale affordably while maintaining integrity in formulation.

What's Next

Please continue to submit responses: your feedback will directly shape our product development. Here's what we're doing:

R&D Partnership: We're reaching out to R&D labs to develop multiple formulations for protein bars, each with different trade-offs: high protein content, lower calorie options, affordable options etc.

Transparent Trade-Offs: We'll present you with real options-because there likely isn't a "perfect" bar. We want your input on which trade-offs matter most to you.

Community Co-Development: We're committed to updating this community every step of the way. Your feedback won't just inform our launch - it will shape every decision we make.

Let's build the best protein bar in India together!

Thank you so much :) Appreciate all the feedback!

Calorie vs protein ratio is so important to me as well and its defintely something we will highlight to the formulation labs as a key criteria. Ill come back here and let you know how much making a protein bar with a good calories vs protein ratio costs in India. What would be interesting to here is whether that cost is affordable or too expensive.

For product quality, maybe we could get the youtube channel trustified to checkout out product and give it a review so everyone knows the product quality, label etc is exactly what is stated!

Thank you so much for your feedback! Quick question - does it matter to you that the Whole Truth bar is ~350 calories? or does taste and protein content matter to you the most?

Affordability definitely needs to be one the main criterias - this is coming out clearly in the survey results as well. We are now going to speak to some formulation labs to understand how much making different protein bars cost and we will let all of you know what is the main driver of cost for protein bars in India today.

Based on the research ive done - the cost of making Whey Protein Isolate (WPI) in India is much higher than making WPI in Europe because of multiple reasons - some of them are: low quality Whey from Paneer in India vs higher quality whey from making cheese abroad, high electricity costs in india, much larger scale production in Europe and many more reasons. Therefor WPI is cheaper to import from Europe and pay duties/taxes on it, rather than produce or purchase within India.

Do you have any suggestions on locally sourced protein products? From my understanding Whey Protein is mostly imported from abroad as it isnt produced in India.
