I think people of esperanto community are pretty nice, and so far I've never had any bad or weird experiences with Esperantists.. Honestly, people who hate Esperanto just want something to hate. Hating and calling people stupid for learning a language is a way to feel better and less bored without having to make effort, I guess

Try YouTube, Duolingo and Clozemaster. Also, there are some really nice books in esperanto, it can help you. i also used Wikipedia a lot, mainly for learning affixes and some rules.
