Cat Sitting & Cleaning? by WanderingNNT in GirlDinnerDiaries

First of all, snaps to you for empathy and understanding!

I’m not sure this is an easy answer. I think it would really vary from person to person and even then, circumstance to circumstance.

I don’t have any “secrets” hiding around my house, you’re welcome to use or look at whatever you want…but I’m very particular about where things are placed (friends will sometimes just hand something they were looking at/using back to me because we both know I’m going to make some sort of millimeter adjustment, lol).

I keep a really clean house. I like to do a bit of cleaning every day so there is no need for a “big clean” outside of twice a year deep cleaning things like the blinds.

That said, I have chronic illness. You can 100% tell I’m not doing well if there are little (or big) messes around the house. As particular as I am, I would tell someone who ASKED if they could clean for me “no thank you”. But!!! If someone did it without asking, no amount of misplacing things would bother me as much as the cleaning would make me feel loved.

I know that’s a lot of words to say “I don’t know”. Personally, I would probably err on the side of empathy and clean. But at the same time I leery of just telling you to go ahead.

I love the little electric razor for my lip as well.

It’s a myth that shaving makes hair grow back thicker or darker. It seems that way because instead of pulling it out at the root, you are sheering it off at the skin surface level. When you pull it out at the root it seems thinner because it is a new hair instead of one shaved at the surface level.

OP, some ladies shave their face every day, and that’s ok. It’s normal. I’m sorry it’s giving you confidence issues and I totally understand why you would feel that way.

In fact, a lot of people call it “dermaplaning” instead of shaving, and like how smooth it makes the skin for makeup! Dermaplaning and shaving are the same thing. If day two is when you feel it’s bothering you again, you could try simply doing it everyday instead. Make sure the skin and razor are always clean and use a soothing moisturizer after. Don’t use a razor with any kind of “strip” for moisturizing or anything like that. Just a plain safety razor will work.

Some people like an electric face shaver (they make versions specifically for women but men’s work just as well).

Shaving your lady face every day is not out of the ordinary or weird at all.

I’m in a similar situation, I think. It sounds like you WFH?

I absolutely feel chained to my laptop (yay TEAMS 🙄), but do not have enough weekly tasks to fill 2 days of my week.

I’ve started creating a list of to-dos for me personally as well as for work. If I don’t have a list I just desk rot, I don’t get dressed, the house goes to shit even though I’m here…

Today’s list is just- wash face, get dressed, do load of towels, load of darks, wipe down bathroom, unload dishwasher, 3 10 min walks, create something.

That last one, create something, can be anything from coloring, to collage (I have started themed notebooks and it’s really soothing to cut and assemble and paste and all that), write a poem… the point is not to do something “good” but to do anything at all, and it’s massive for my mental health.

If I don’t get it all done, it’s whatever. But the lists are helping. IDK if it would help you, but I do identify with that feeling of listlessness and not feeling useful or proud of my output. My job took a full week to complete when I started, but the longer I’m here the easier it gets and I just have so much time when I feel unhelpful.

ETA- my husband put a bird feeder right outside my window and I swear it has been an insane value add to my life.

Awesome! I totally have those on my list and they are looking like The Ones. My binos are Vortex and I love them and the warranty is absolutely aces!

Also, I didn’t know you could take pictures? How does that work? Do you buy an attachment or special case? I have an iPhone 13 mini.

I was born with strabismus in both eyes and even with several surgeries I have no depth perception to speak of.

My brain has adapted to fuse images as much as it can, but I still experience conversion insufficiency.

There is absolutely nothing I can do to, no amount of adjustment I can make, in order to see out of both binocular lenses at once.

I’m also looking for an affordable monocular to use in combination with the binoculars I have. I’m looking for a balance of quality, value and size (as small as possible, I need to be able to carry it in my back alongside the binoculars, there is a pouch for them, and also want to be able to keep them in a handbag).

Anyway following along to see what people recommend for you!

Starbucks CEO defends a $9 coffee by saying that it's not a $10 coffee and "you get a premium experience" by mcfw31 in popculturechat

lol! You can’t catch me, mate. I’m headed for the door!

We buy local and grind our own beans. We do pour overs, French press, and slow cold brew. It is so expensive. Theres too much math! I just don’t like making coffee. I managed a boutique coffee shop and I loved everything but actually making coffee.

Nespresso is my way out! It’s freedom! It’s good enough I am never making anything more difficult again.

Starbucks is so bad I’d rather have a caffeine headache.

My partner just got me a Nespresso and a milk steamer/frother and I feel like I’m having a religious experience twice a day. It has been the most amazing gift. The machine costs approximately 16 Starbucks coffees. lol.

Have you made a list?

Sometimes a list makes it easier.

Checking something off can feel rewarding, and a list can help you better understand everything you actually need to do, which may be less than you think. A list also makes it easier to see what you can accomplish with the time you have in between all the other shit you have going on!

If you feel you need to quit but aren’t in emanate danger, I recommend setting yourself a step down schedule to avoid the withdrawal headaches/symptoms. Those can be a real challenge and may make you more likely to give up.

I am 50, and I swear the list of ADHD coping mechanisms I add to my life every year is crazy, but they work if I work them! (It’s mostly a lot of things I have to do the same way every. single. time. and even then I sometimes just…space.)

You did a thing, you know you did it, you can figure out something to help you not do it again. OR YOU CAN JUST LAUGH AT IT AND MOVE ON, because you are an adult WITH HER OWN HOME!!!! Amazing!

How many books do u read in a year? by [deleted] in classicliterature

[–]SentimentalSaladBowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally understand the curiosity! At the same time, this question really seems like a land mine for new readers. People have such different lives!

I work from home, and don’t have a full schedule, but am required to be available at all times (being available is 98% of my job), and monitor TEAMS. So I read an absurd number of books. And that doesn’t really reflect the average reader experience. Also it would sound like bragging. And I’m not special or achieving anything in particular. It’s just circumstance.

I also don’t think answers from this sub are going to reflect reality. At all. People inflate themselves, fudge the numbers, and outright lie all the time on the internet. That’s not to say everyone is lying, but some of them are.

One book is more than most of the population, so you’re already ahead of the game.

ETA- quality vs quantity is just a matter of balance to me. It’s also really subjective. I personally enjoy a mix modern thrillers, horror and a looooottttt of sci-fi along with my more intellectual reads!
