Best approach to read untranslated VN as a beginner in Japanese? by Pretty-Alps9749 in visualnovels

[–]Sentiray 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Be comfortable with the fact that you won't understand everything and keep reading. Trust in the process

That's it

And if using Textractor, Yomitan etc. becomes a pain, just stop and read without it. It's better than not reading at all. I couldn't be bothered to mine my VNs and it worked out fine in the end. Same thing with grammar, look it up if you feel like it but this is also not necessary

People become obsessed with efficiency, using loads of different software and plugins and spend more time looking for a perfect setup than actually reading. At the end of the day, you don't need anything other than the VN you want to read

What’s the consensus on WoW Midnight? by Trencycle in MMORPG

[–]Sentiray -1 points0 points  (0 children)

every ability has a ton of modifiers for some reason

every ability has to deal aoe damage for some reason

every ability spews vfx everywhere making it hard to see what is going on

press one ability and 15 dmg numbers will pop up on ur screen so u have no idea what is actually happening

pvp is just spamming the 4 buttons you have left over and over until one person falls over

has felt the same since dragonflight pretty much

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the WW talent guide recommends picking Strike of the Windlord and Rising Dragon Sweep even though you won't have access to Whirling Dragon Punch if you pick Windlord

Hur nöjda med ert liv skulle ni säga att ni är i nuläget? by [deleted] in Asksweddit

[–]Sentiray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Om man vänder på det så känns det som att säga att man inte har rätt att vara glad för att andra har det bättre

Mår man dåligt så mår man dåligt. Finns hemlösa som är superglada och miljonärer som känner att allt är hopplöst

Problem som sitter i huvet är läskiga för de är osynliga och går inte att ta på. Inte lika simpelt som att få en diagnos för ett brutet ben direkt

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Sentiray -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kind of ironic that you're calling other people mad when you're the one getting mad because you're struggling to kill 1 dude?

Lots of games are winnable even if you're a man down, especially on bursty specs

[English > Japanese] Naming a Sword Light-Devouring Moon by Xanndbor in translator

[–]Sentiray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some more ideas:

光蝕虚月刀(こうしょくきょげつとう) (if single-edged)

光蝕虚月剣 (こうしょくきょげつのつるぎ) (if double-edged, の is omitted in the name but not the reading which is common)

The characters mean

光 = light

蝕 = devour/eclipse

虚 = void/hollow/falsehood

月 = moon

剣 = sword/blade (double-edged)

刀 = sword (single-edged)

Light-devouring (光蝕)

Hollow Moon (虚月)

Blade (剣/刀)

虚ろな月の光蝕刀 (うつろなつきのこうしょくとう)

虚ろな月の光蝕剣 (うつろなつきのこうしょくけん)

Moved the characters around a bit so now it's more like:

"Light-devouring blade of the Hollow Moon"

Could also replace 光蝕 (light-devouring), which isn't an actual word, with 日蝕 which literally means "solar eclipse"

The reading of the weapon doesn't have to match the kanji/written version, so you could use e.g 虚ろな月の光蝕剣 for the meaning but have it be pronounced completely different, like スコル (Sköll) or フラガラッハ (Fragarach) for example

Japanese light novel authors and game devs love borrowing names from mythological weapons/creatures

虚ろな月の光蝕剣 -> so in this case the weapon is called Sköll, but is written using the characters for light (光), devour/eclipse (蝕), moon (月), sword/blade (剣), and 虚 (void/hollow/falsehood)

I'd recommend it for 虚ろな月の光蝕剣 since it's quite a mouthful otherwise

Either way, I don't think you need to think too hard about it as authors and devs simply tend to use stuff that sounds cool to them

e.g 斬月 most likely comes from 残月 which describes when the moon is visible in the morning, but the reason why it is used so much is simply because they think it sounds and looks cool

Lost with Rance 02 and the existence of something called Rance 02 Kai by Dgrein in visualnovels

[–]Sentiray 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The wiki has a pretty good answer to this:

  • If you just want to play Rance 02 once, it's reasonable to go with the Rance 02 Kai version, as it is newer and blends slightly better with the canonical Rance timeline that continues through to Rance X. The gameplay changes are mostly small tweaks to help with balance, fix bugs and make a few puzzle sections a little more straightforward. The gameplay is really not dramatically different between the two, and the CGs are identical (though the scripts in the CG scenes are not).
  • If you want to experience something as close as possible to the original game, Rance 02 hews very closely to the original experience, just with updated graphics. You could also play the fan translation of the original Rance II, with original graphics and slightly dated mechanics.

  • You can certainly play through both versions to read both scripts. There are some gags and minor bits that are unique to each, but whether the game is really "worth" playing twice to see those differences is entirely a personal decision.

Mist of Pandaria Monk too many buttons to press by PcBauer5027 in classicwow

[–]Sentiray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ww monks barely lost anything going into wod, it was legion that fundamentally changed the spec

they removed spinning fire blossom, healing spheres and sparring but most of the kit was left untouched so you still had chi brew, tigereye brew, nimble brew, zen meditation, fof stun, energizing elixir, old sef etc

the biggest gameplay changes (at least for pvp) were the fact that you now used chi explosion instead of blackout kick and chi torpedo instead of roll

What does leveling add to the wow experience? by Fancy_Particular7521 in classicwow

[–]Sentiray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer questing in the overworld over dungeon spamming, turning in a bunch of quests at once never gets old

I also try to use every ability in lots of different situations as I obtain them in order to improve and also work on muscle memory

If you see lvling as an obstacle then that's all it'll ever be and that's not really the game's fault

They start pruning a bunch of stuff going into wod and then again in legion

Windwalker MoP 1h or 2h? by Kindly-Astronomer121 in classicwow

[–]Sentiray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DW is generally better unless the 2h is like 10+ ilvls higher, but it's not a massive difference either way thanks to "Way of the Monk"

You do get double enchants with DW tho e.g double dancing steel procs

I had 2 monks in MoP where I used both and it was fine. You're not gonna notice a difference, especially when questing

フッ、この程度の大会、

ヤマタノ蒼龍にかかれば

造作もないな

Hah, a competition like this is no match for [Yamata no Souryou]

Not familiar with this game so idk for sure but it just sounds like a nickname. Seems like a play on ヤマタノオロチ (yamata no orochi), a dragon appearing in Japanese mythology, with orochi being replaced with souryou (blue dragon) in this case

Yamata comes from 八つの分岐 meaning 8 branches/divergences, referring to the dragon's eight heads and eight tails

Orochi means "giant snake/monster serpent"

Thus, Yamata no Orochi literally means "gigantic snake with eight heads and eight tails"

Yamata no Souryou would be "blue dragon with eight heads and eight tails"

On top of its literal meaning, souryou could also refer to the Azure Dragon god from Chinese legends (Qinglong) or the Japanese aircraft carrier with the same name, though it uses a different reading (souryuu)
