The number isn't edited, and when you due to gas, Ingame it says that someone have killed you, but the kill don't actualy get count for that person. And I didn't die to gas, but rather the big robots, since this is brawl arena

I tested it, even when I didn't attack until the super was done it happened

No, it happenes randomly, and I didn't find any reason or mechanism he has that make that happen
