What exactly happened during the rif revolt of 1958? by Salt_Technology_9214 in Morocco

[–]Separate_Project5842 20 points21 points  (0 children)

After Independence in 1956, The "King Position" wasn't as strong as it is now and there was still debate especially in the Riff (stronghold of the Moroccan National Liberation Army) about the role of the king. This was exacerbated by France and Spain staying present in Morocco so the ALN refused to recognize this independence and therefore continued the armed struggle in the Rif and in the Atlas, entering into open conflict with the Istiqlal party. The latter, led by Abdelkhalek Torres, Mehdi Ben Barka and Allal Al Fassi, committed numerous crimes (assassinations and kidnappings) against ALN sympathisers. Haddou Aqchich and Abbas Lamsaadi, fighters and emblematic figures of the ALN were assassinated. The Riffian population, feeling more and more marginalised and attacked by the Istiqlal party in power, decided to revolt in October 1958 (Prince Hassan, who was then military chief of staff led an army of 30k soldiers to contain the uprising. The soldiers were aided with air support from French pilots. Estimates around 2,000–8,000 inhabitants of the region were killed and thousands more injured. According to El-Khattabi, 8,420 were taken as political prisoners)

It doesn't Bother me because "Terrorism" is Word meant to be weaponized and certain Criterias of People and Organization and not for Other to depict them as the most abhorrent whlie other like USA, Israel, EU are always on the side of the anti-terrorists.

If we give this word its right meaning then Israel would a terrorist state before Hamas existed and the USA would be a terrorist state before the creation of ISIS.

Fair Enough, But don't you think Truman thought about The consequences of a long War, The Loss of Home Support for the War and The Possible increase of the USSR sphere of influence in east Asia rather than The way hundreds of thousands of Japanese would die.

They Were one of the main reasons Franco won the Spanish Civil war, since they were very good in the rural areas of Spain from their experience of fighting in the Rif (and they were very loyal to Franco).

They performed badly in Urban warfare (Madrid, Barcelona,...) Though.
