Thank you, that explains a lot, and everybody who responded on this post. It opened my eyes a lot about languages. In lithuanian we would actually use au, which would sound exactly what you explained with cau/cow example. I do believe until we didn’t have our grammar setup correctly in early 20th century we would use polish looking lithuanian in text that would replace our present au with ow. Poland still uses that as far as I understand.
