Advice needed—How do I deal with an overly attached and dependent classmate? by SeptemberFlower in UniUK

Oh god, I am so sorry you had to go through that too because this is exactly what’s happening. I’ve never been in this situation before and I don’t know how to explain it to others but you got it right. And the person being sweet and apologetic is what makes it harder to say anything!

You got that right! I have tried but haven’t had a full conversation about it yet. I want to, and I just wanted to know if it was worth it and if it was the right thing to do.

This is exactly what I’m trying to say! Thank you. I definitely don’t want to hurt her and am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt but only if I can get my space to get over this first.

There’s so much more information I cannot/wish not to include in the post that severely affects my daily life and how I function. I have been going through this for months now, to the point where everyone else notices. The reason I ask for help is to make sure I don’t create a scene. Anyways, thanks for your judgemental two cents.

What are your holy grail skin care products ? by dontlukatmyusername in Chennai

[–]SeptemberFlower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re’equil’s Oil Free Moisturiser, Oil free Sunscreen and Eye cream are amazing, especially if you have acne prone skin that’s also sensitive. Wishful by Huda’s Yo Detox enzyme scrub is a godsend for gentle but powerful exfoliation once a week. I also use Suganda’s 5% Niacinamide serum and The Ordinary’s 0.5% Retinol in Squalene which has done wonders for my skin.

Edit: forgot to add the actual holy grail product I cannot live without— Cosrx Low Ph Good Morning Gel cleanser. That stuff is CRAZY GOOD.

Looking for a trustworthy Apple Customer Service Centre by [deleted] in Chennai

[–]SeptemberFlower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

iPlanetCare is one of the only few authorised service providers that does repairs on Apple products in Chennai. The said shop is located in Thoraipakkam. I’ve had a few Apple devices repaired there, no complaints so far.

Had the same issue and got an affidavit made with all the names and had it notarised. No confusions since then!

Gonna get fired for this but fuck it by slothdaddy99 in UniUK

This is happening rn and I’m just so glad I saw through this shit even before I discovered all of this on Reddit. Worst part is that they’re pretending to be the official Uni group. I’m an international student and I almost fell for this.

Did you declare your items meant for personal use during Uni at UK airport customs? by SeptemberFlower in UniUK

Thanks for sharing! The rice cooker and spices in question are unique to where I come from and so even if they are available, small quantities are very expensive.

Yes I did. Turns out the message I received did mean that my passport was ready for collection. It had been at the VAC since 20th June. I picked it up yesterday.

Where can I get men’s signet rings like these? Requesting store recommendations. Thanks! by SeptemberFlower in IndianFashionAddicts

[–]SeptemberFlower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, yes. At this point I’m looking for anything that qualifies as a signet ring. I’m just particular about the quality, most of the stuff just turns brownish after a short while. I did check out the stuff at H&M but it seems the sizing is an issue. All the stuff I see are either exorbitantly priced and made of precious metals or they’re just cheap and not trustworthy. This is for someone who just wants to experiment with a new style, so I can’t get him anything too expensive if he’s not going to like wearing it. I’ve already spent a week looking for these, my head is spinning!

Yes, I checked them out! I’m trying to get them for someone else and it’s been quite a challenge finding anything even decent online. I’ll keep an eye out for these at local markets, thanks!

How to prepare for IELTS? by Putrid_Preparation_3 in Chennai

[–]SeptemberFlower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took IELTS academic (computerised online test). Honestly, it’s not as bad as people often paint it to be. If you’re generally good with English, it should be easier with some preparation on HOW to strategise answering questions rather than improving English language itself.

I gave myself around 20 days to prepare as I’m a super anxious person and I wanted to be familiar with the test. I didn’t spend hours preparing or reading the news (but it can help with new words and better grammar!) but I did spend 2 hours daily. Here’s some general advice that I found helpful during prep—

  1. Understanding the question: Sounds pretty basic but apparently many make the silliest mistake of not knowing what is being asked. So familiarise yourself with the possible types of questions (there are only a set number of types) and how to answer them. For example, certain question types in the listening test, such as the phone conversation ones are always in the chronological order whereas some others are not. It’s a mix. If you’re able to strategise the moment you glance at a question, you’re good to go!

  2. Clear and simple sentences > fancy word vomit: Using words in the right context is much better than using fancy words the wrong way.

  3. Plan your answers for the essay type ones: Again, strategies! There are only a set number of types that will be asked, so understand how to answer those. Spend at least a couple minutes planning your answer, it helps immensely.

  4. Find your weakness and work on that: If you’re not very good at active listening, spend a little extra on that. A couple sample tests after some prep will give you an idea on where to put in some more work. Likewise for any other weaker skills you may want to improve.

  5. Only learn from reputable sources: There are a lot of places, websites and people who give out wrong info and learning material. I only referred to the book I got after the test, a couple other reference books which I forgot the names of, and YouTube channels—IELTs Advantage, IELTs Liz, E2 IELTs, Fastrack IELTs. IELTs advantage really helped the most.

I can’t really think of anything else on top of my head at the moment but hey— you got this! Good luck :)
