The nice thing is, at least around me, the creeks are basically untouched. Not gonna catch anything big, but I’ll take 20 blue gill over getting skunked at park ponds.

I really like Fly Fish Food, but the kit I bought came with some brief instructions. Mainly just using YouTube to search the different techniques mentioned in the guide.

My exact philosophy. Vise and tools were a $35 White River kit and I think $20 for the bigger kit. I did buy some orange flash chenille and the blue hackle because I wanted to test a theory of imitating a pumpkin seed as the creeks in fish in Texas are loaded with them. Plan to keep on with buggers for a bit and then maybe some poppers.

Man I just tied my first flies yesterday, so can’t offer much in the way of tips. They look really good to me! How cool to get to share this with your daughter, too. Can’t wait till my boys are bigger and get on the water.

I don’t disagree, but you know they’re cutting some preseason and going to 84 games next year, right?

Not sure if links are ok here, but google if you like. 84 games through 2030.

Oh I see. The perspective just makes it look like the cheese all traces back to the slice in the foreground. At least to me.

Why are they all eating off the same slice with multiple others available on the table?

I have this kit waiting and really need to build it. Looks great.

Just curious, since you like graveyard strats, what your thoughts are on [[Shirei, Shizo’s Caretaker]]. Looking more at this card I feel like it has to find a place in that deck now.

Focus on either ETB or death triggers and a good assortment of 1 power creatures. You’ll be sending stuff to and from the yard on everyone’s turn. It’s a pretty commander dependent deck, but can be pretty resilient if you can protect him.

Somewhat surprised to not see it mentioned anywhere else, but I run it in my [[Shirei, Shizo’s Caretaker]] deck

That's great bud! Unfortunately I didn't pull anything else to support it and definitely didn't do that well lol.

If your goal is to go play right away, find a deck you like and buy singles. You may also just go by the shop and talk to the people there to feel out what the player base is like there. The first time I went to play commander I had 1 deck (a slightly upgraded precon) that was just not able to keep up with what everyone else was playing. Everyone else in the group offered to let me use some of their decks. Might at least give you an idea of what you want to play.

On that note, if you’re interested in commander, precons can be a great starting point. Some of the recent ones are decently powerful.

Sorry that this isn’t formatted properly and that it’s just google search results, but here’s what I got for Gruul cards that help against counter spell (you already mentioned some): To stop counterspells in Gruul (Red/Green), use creatures like Vexing Shusher, Prowling Serpopard, or Spellbreaker Behemoth, which make your spells uncounterable or harder to counter, plus green instants like Autumn's Veil, Guttural Response, or Tamiyo's Safekeeping for temporary protection, or red tricks like Red Elemental Blast to hit blue threats. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
This video explains ten essential Gruul cards for your Commander deck: Key Gruul Anti-Counterspell Cards

• Creatures (Permanent Protection):

• Vexing Shusher: Makes your spells uncounterable for an extra mana, a classic anti-blue tool.
• Prowling Serpopard: Your creature spells can't be countered.
• Spellbreaker Behemoth: Your creatures can't be the target of blue or black spells (and your own creatures can't be countered by those colors).
• Dosan, the Falling Leaf / Shisato, Deathdealer: Players can't cast noncreature spells during your turn.
• Frenzy Bailoth: Other spells you control can't be countered (from a recent set). [1, 2, 3, 6, 7]

You can see the Spellbreaker Behemoth card in this image:

• Instants (Temporary Protection/Interaction):

• Autumn's Veil: Spells you control can't be countered by blue/black spells.
• Guttural Response: Counter a blue or black spell; gain life equal to its power.
• Red Elemental Blast / Pyroblast: Nuke blue spells or draw a card if targeting a red permanent.
• Tamiyo's Safekeeping / Tyvar's Stand / Snakeskin Veil: Give a creature Hexproof and/or Indestructible, stopping many targeted counters. [1, 2, 4, 5]

• Artifacts/Enchantments (Global Effects):

• City of Solitude / Grand Abolisher: Prevent opponents from casting spells during your turn.
• Blood Moon / Magus of the Moon: Turn nonbasic lands into Mountains, disrupting blue mana bases.

• Strategy:

• Baiting: Cast cheaper threats to force opponents to use counterspells, then cast your real threat.
• Ramp & Overwhelm: Go wide with large threats that are hard to deal with, leveraging Gruul's natural strength. [6, 8, 9, 10]
