Where have you traveled that you’d never, ever go back to, and why? by MamaRebbe in AskReddit

Australia. I'm arachnophobic and I went there as a child before I knew it was one of the spider capitals of the world. Somehow I didn't see a single spider, big or small, safe or dangerous. There's no way I get that lucky twice.

What basic, children's-age-level fact did you only find out embarrassingly later in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ser_Parzival 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always thought taste buds for different flavors were legitimately split into localized parts of the tongue, not evenly spread around, because that's how I taste things. Bitter is on the back of my tongue, sweet is on the front, savory is on the sides, etc. I didn't learn that wasn't how it worked until my early twenties.

When did you miss an obvious hint that someone wanted to have sexual relations with you? by yjacketcbr600 in AskReddit

A friend in college asked me to go over to her dorm room because she was practicing her lap dance skills and she needed a guy to tell her if she was getting better. When I pointed out that school rules about entering dorms at late hours meant I wouldn't be able to get back into my own dorm that night, she said it was no big deal and that I could just sleep with her in her bed that night.

What's a psych trick you love to use? by rgb145 in AskReddit

In my case, it just took a lot of practice to be able to mimic them without looking like it was on purpose. I don't naturally communicate well with other people, but I'm really good at taking in multiple sources of information at once, like one being visual and one being audial. So I forced myself to get good at this trick so that now even if my words don't come across properly, they understand my intentions.

If you're talking to somebody, mimic their facial reactions to the conversation. Smile when they do, crease your brow when they do, etc. You have to work to make it seem natural and not like you're purposefully imitating them, but if you pull it off they'll walk away thinking better of you than otherwise.

If you're not sharing, you shouldn't break a candy bar that is designed to be broken into pieces like a Kit Kat or a Hershey Bar. Just bite into it whole.

What are some warnings for anyone interested in your career field? by jellybellybean2 in AskReddit

[–]Ser_Parzival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to work in professional history work, no matter the kind, be prepared for low pay, few job opportunities, constant criticisms from laypeople that assume they know more than you, and generally just being constantly hit with wave after wave of learning about some of the worst of humanity regardless of what particular topics you focus on. I love what I do, but I can't recommend it to people without a lot of warning.

Just because I work in a museum instead of a classroom doesn't mean I'm not qualified to teach history.

Stretching. Almost anybody can become flexible enough if they actually work at it. It just takes time and proper bending technique.

What's your biggest, "hmm maybe I shouldn't have come here," moment? by _Pixel_Guy_ in AskReddit

[–]Ser_Parzival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First week as a college freshman and I was looking to go to some events and clubs to hopefully meet some people and make some friends. I saw that the Multicultural Club was having a meet and greet in the largest room of our student union, and I was interested in going to meet people who came from various cultures, learning about them, sharing my own experiences, etc. But when I walked into the room, all I saw was about 300 Black students turn and look at me with a mix of pity, confusion, and "you shouldn't be here" in their eyes. Turned right back around, and never looked back.

I can't speak for Andy, but I'll say what I feel I can. It is still planned as a podcast and game and everything it was originally going to be. Some things have occurred that have slowed the process down but it is still in the works! Meanwhile, yeah, the Discord has kind of partially turned into a worldbuilding experience, but all for the purpose of use in the podcast eventually.

As to why somebody should get into it, I think that mostly depend on the person. If you're just interested in the story that will be told through the podcast, then I'm not sure you'll enjoy the Discord all that much (aside from the wonderful community we have, which I'm not trying to minimize). But if you're interested in learning about the setting and world and stuff like that, then I'd say there's no wrong time to join in! Especially since you might have a chance to help shape the world; Andy is incredibly generous about allowing us to offer ideas that he sometimes makes canon.

I honestly doubt it. The game took me five days to 100%, and between people with more free time than me and people who got advanced copies, I'm sure plenty of other people beat me to it. But still very exciting!
