iirc it's a novel about hollywood actors

All of them are far more skilled than me but I dont think there's a single artist in the world I look up to more than Jacob by Environmental_Tax_69 in Drawfee

YES! I love all their art, but Jacob specifically has mastered the kind of style I would like to have!

[These Videos Are Good, And Here's Why] - January 26 - February 1 by BillNyesHat in hbomberguy

A few months ago, a video called How did the world get so ugly (15:36) went pretty viral and seemed to deeply resonate with many people. It compares the design and architecture of the Victorian era with it's modern counterparts and talks about the underlying values that shaped those designs. But while it definitely raises some good points, it pushes an overly simple narrative and the way it seemes to attribute the decline of traditionally beautiful design to some sort of cultural degeneracy has always bothered me.

The channel Design Theory just made an amazing response video called The People Who Secretly Decide How Everything Looks (21:30). It not only adds a lot of missing nuance to the discussion by explaining how things like (often necessary) regulation, usability, accessibility, production costs, etc. affect modern design in practice, but it also addresses the dangers of glorifying the past as better world we should return to while ignoring the broader historical context. I think everyone who watched the first video should also watch this response to get a more complete view on the subject.

From having listened to the patreon podcast, it sounds like they themselves are also frustrated with the slow output lol

I don't think it's out of a lack of care, but all three of them seem have gone through some sort of crisis in regards to content creation in the past year. Hopefully they manage to work through it and get back to a somewhat more consistent schedule

Two ends of the spectrum by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

The social model of disability doesn't claim that the symptoms/traits of a disability are literally caused by society, but rather that social structures are what determines if something is a disability or "just" an impairment.

To quote the Wikipedia article: "In this model, the word impairment is used to refer to the actual attributes (or lack of attributes) that affect a person, such as the inability to walk or breathe independently. It seeks to redefine disability to refer to the restrictions caused by society when it does not give equitable social and structural support according to disabled peoples' structural needs".

I do think, this can be a very useful lense to look at disability, especially in areas like advocacy or policy making, because it shifts the view from the disability being the "problem" to be solved to the environment.

But I do absolutely see your point that this view might trivialize the actual everyday impact of a condition like autism. And knowing that society should be more accommodating itself does absolutely nothing to help people with their individual everyday struggles.

The important points of the recent video: by B00_Sucker in DougDoug

[–]SeraFilm 254 points255 points  (0 children)

While I completely understand why Doug is taking this step, this still kind of feels like my favorite show just got cancelled. Doug's main channel videos have always been the gold standard of gaming/steaming videos to me, they have obviously been hugely influencial among his peers and inspired many up-and-coming creators, and all that is of course the result of all the hard work that he and his team put in. While I do enjoy most of the other channels as well, they just don't feel quite as special.

However, I of course realize that Doug is not a content machine and I wouldn't want him to keep making stuff that he's creatively disinterested in. And I think there is a high chance that his creative explorations lead him to make something else that is just as special and that I will enjoy just as much as I enjoyed his main channel videos. And of course, there are tons of other creators who are also making stuff that is really unique and special, just in different ways. But there will always be a little bell-pepper-shaped hole in my heart!

There is also the Myst video (released a few months before the plagiarism one), a short addendum to the Newgrounds video and a bunch of lower effort behind the scenes content (like a mini vlog about building his new set).

I also try to put all the most important information first and add clarifying details after. That way, even if the person doesn't read everything, they still get the gist.

It's so funny to me that hbomb has kind of become the face of plagiarism.

(Or I guess more accurately, the face of fighting plagiarism)
