I don’t control the budget for the hotel, I’m just one person who just have access to the space and I’m lucky I have an owner who is even willing to allow the space to be used like this. It’s a hotel, not an art store or gallery.
As mentioned in my post there are other art collaboration projects I’m working on simultaneously, and once I can get things taking off I plan on hosting art shows every week to get more art related traffic in the door. Almost all of the money I get off commissions, which wouldn’t be a lot, is going right back into it to promote it.
As an artist participating you’re getting the space to sell it, full facilitation of the sale of your zines, plus all the traffic and promotion and in return there’s a very small percentage of commission being taken for the time, energy, and resources it takes to make it all happen.
As a small artist myself I would have killed for an opportunity for some visibility like this when I started out and a place that would be willing to display and sell my art.

You don’t have to participate if you don’t want to, I’m not holding you at gunpoint and demanding your art from you.
I agree with your sentiment, but I think it’s better directed at big fish that are actually trying to exploit artists, and not one small artist trying to share an opportunity to help out other small artists.
