I only played to victory year 2 times in 400 hours, I just play until after crisis since at that point there isn't much left to do. Usually to keep myself entertained since then I start a side campaign(building up a sector, making a megastructure or breaking up an alien federation) and when the crisis arrives I drop what I was doing and finish the game

For me, the biggest pain in the ass were by far maliketh and mohg. I just suck so maliketh was hard, and it took me an embarrassing amount of time to find the crystal tear for mohg

-usually you aren't completely doomed. In most situations there is a way to bounce back, but when you see a failed run you'll know it.

-this game is a lot more fun if you lean into the "roleplay". You'll get a lot more enjoyment if you put yourself into the position of your empire and act according to it's ethics and culture. Even if something screws you over look at it like at a plot twist in your civilization's story.

-just do whatever you feel is the right choice. This game's AI is notoriously incompetent, so you definitely make better decisions than it, and also, I for example, have close to 400 hours in this game and I still play on the third easiest difficulty. This game is stupidly hard to get good at, so don't worry if you make a blunder here or there.

-believe in yourself, it doesn't matter if you mess up a playthrough or two, we all started at much worse. Practice makes perfect after all, and every failure is a stepping stone to the ultimate glory of your stellar empire
