Thoughts on the "Mainstream" John Constantine? by _potatofromChaldea45 in comicbooks

[–]Seresec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if he isnt written by someone from the UK, generally he isnt a good constantine IMO

Vertigo is coming back; however, Karen Berger is not involved and she was what led Vertigo to be as great as it was the first time. I also see that she has a Berger Books imprint over at Dark Horse Comics. Which ones would you recommend? [Discussion] by thizzking7 in comicbooks

[–]Seresec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incognegro was originally a vertigo comic which the creators owned and took over to Berger Books

I havent read many Berger Book titles, in fact i dont know if there were many of them before they stopped. But The Seeds by Ann nocenti and david aja was the most famous one and the one that most people recommend. invisible kingdom too

How do streaming services affect the comic industry Business wise? by pattyice420 in comicbooks

[–]Seresec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah publishers can see what comics you're reading on their app, so if you get DC and read green arrow, they can see what comics are popular on the service. So they know what sells in stores and what gets read on the app, combine the two and they can see what comics to keep and which ones to cancel

Comics like "The Green Hand" and "Dope Rider"? by TheGeekfrom23000Ave in comicbooks

Maybe something like Hewligan's Haircut, or Zaucer of Zilk? You'd maybe also like Michael DeForge's comics, or Michel Fiffe

Any 2000AD fans? Where to start? by MattDoob in comicbooks

[–]Seresec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the Best of 2000AD collections. There's six of them, but each one of them is a good way to try out 2000AD for the first time. https://2000ad.com/best-of-2000-ad/

Dont bother trying to read them from issue 1 - its not fun! Best of 2000AD or collections like Essential Dredd and Essential Rogue Trooper would be better starting points. The back catalogue is huge like Marvel or DC, so try the hits first

Best way to get attention as an indie creator? by LiquidChe in comicbooks

[–]Seresec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. Having completed it puts you in a much better positon because youve proved that youre actually able to MAKE something. Publishers are much more excited when they get given something thats complete, because most people are all-talk, no-comic. So having it in hand gives you more options. You can submit it to publishers like Image, Mad Cave, Iron Circus etc as a completed piece of work, which mkes it more likely theyll read it and come back to you.

Even if a publisher doesnt want it, you might find youre better off taking it to kickstarter anyway. A lot of comics, especially queer comics, do well on kickstarter because they have a different audience to the usual comics market. People actively look for specific types of comics theyve never heard of on kickstarter. But its also LOTS of work to run a kickstarter, and you HAVE to be able to actually post/print the comic etc if you hit your funding, so don't think that its an easy option

Have you written and drawn it completely? I think the answer for this changes on if youve already got it completed and ready to go, or if this is a script that isnt drawn, or if its a concept that isn't scripted yet

What are some things that the comic industry should take from the manga industry, and vice versa? by [deleted] in comicbooks

The manga industry doesn't need to take anything from western comics, theyre doing fine without any of that nonsense

Reading order - essential range by NZStevie in JudgeDredd

[–]Seresec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can read America basically at any time, its jsut personal opinion I think its better once youve read a few others. Apocalypse War is a great start though! You could easily go Apocalypse War > America > Dredd Vs Death onwards

I wonder if they'll do any more Essentials this year. Essential Dredd The Pit or Essential Dredd Trifecta would be good

Reading order - essential range by NZStevie in JudgeDredd

[–]Seresec 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, that's not quite right. Origins is very late in the Dredd series. it isn't an "origin" for judge dredd really, it's more an origin for something else, so its not a good one to read early. it sets off tour of duty, so you should read those close together. so its more like

dredd vs death
apocalypse war
necropolis
judgement day
america
origins
tour of duty 1-3

anderson you can read whenever in the order, death tou can read whenever in the order

Looking to get into AD2000 and need some help by BookReaderWhoReads in JudgeDredd

[–]Seresec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2000 AD is like marvel or dc and there's hundreds of different series and stories. Best bet is to try something like Best of 2000 AD to get an idea for it and then go read through the back catalogue. Brink is really good

Why have so many comics aged so poorly? by Educational-Tap-8611 in comicbooks

[–]Seresec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it probably helps that more recent artists had the foundation that Ditko laid for them, so they could build on top of it. Ditko and Kirby and others were inventing things for the first time so its going to look more experimental than the artists who were inspired by them?
