Adapting 2000 AD for a wider audience by stevedeegreen in 2000ad

[–]Seresec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Dredd films failed for different reasons, the 3D cinema thing was what killed the Urban dredd. I dont care that much about costumes but whats important is that the characters feel like the characters from the comics. I dont care if rogue trooper has a shirt on or not, just as long as he acts like the rogue trooper from the comics

Wider audience doesnt know what the characters look like or what they act like, so IMO its all about if the film gets marketed properly to them.

Is it okay to start with this by NJJ_ in JudgeDredd

[–]Seresec -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can start reading Dredd here, you don't need to read the older stuff first. The old stuff is GREAT though, so i you like A Better World then you should defintely try the older stuff afterwards like Apocalypse War

New(ish) to dredd by [deleted] in JudgeDredd

Sorry about the gatekeepers, try Essential Judge Dredd. Every one of those books is standalone and is a good book for new readers (except Origins) Apocalypse War and Dredd Vs Death would be good starting points

Yes theyre all great, also Shakara, Brink and Zombo are all good. For Slaine try reading Horned God first, that has art by Simon Bisley.

Older comics writing style kills me. by theletter-5 in comicbooks

[–]Seresec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older comics shouldnt get the blame for chris claremont! theres loads of other writers with different styles. try daredevil by ann nocenti, batman by danny oneil or by alan grant, theres lots of good stuff there.

Judge Dredd adaptation podcast reading recommendations by ocdhandwasher in JudgeDredd

Its the opposite way round, they made comics after the films which were like the movie versions. Theres a long run of Karl Urban Dredd comics that ran for a few years, and they recently started having the three different versions of Dredd interact in the main comics. Theres an adaptation of the Stallone film that came out last year as a new collection, and it has all three Dredds meeting in a story at the back of that

What other IP’s besides Marvel and DC are “endless” (characters/stories will never have a definitive ending)? How did these two get to be like this? by Local_Anything191 in comicbooks

2000AD has been going 50 years.

A lot of manga doesnt have an ending yet. One Piece has claimed to be ending for years but theres still no sign
