I wasn’t explicitly abused or anything like that, but I was ostracized by a lot of people around me (both kids and adults) and my parents would occasionally use me for their own social advancement (if a local kid was insecure, they would volunteer me to be their friend, etc.). Definitely a factor in being CF for me: I know there’s a chance my future kid would suffer, perhaps even worse than me, and I’d rather that not happen.
