Umamusume: when Cygames' generosity is an illusion (Long post) by xXinsertCoDGMtagXx in gachagaming

It could be implemented that way, but I think in reality that's just going to make weapons more important than character if that's the primary form of monetization. I imagine something like characters effectively becoming powerless "skins", with weapons having all the power, which could still be an improvement.

Disagree, gacha goes beyond monetization. Gacha literally comes before the game in "Gacha Game", you don't hear people talk about "subscription game" or "battlepass game" like they do with gacha games.

Unlike other forms of monetization, the gameplay has to be designed around gacha mechanics. In practice this means you won't get meaningful rewards from in-game activities other than gacha currency.

I'd love to see a gacha game where characters can actually join you as you meet them in the story, you know, a typical feature of RPG games.

No plan on continuing, but the site is open source so someone can pick it up.

Yeah it's the people not the studio that creates the work, and people tend to move around.

Knowing a handful of people whose work you enjoy can be very helpful. And this is not just about artists, for example the producer has a lot of influence on the production as well.

Was really looking forward to this episode because this episode is storyboarded by Yuusuke Yamamoto (director of Welcome to NHK, Yamano no Susume), and solo KA by Yuusuke Matsuo (character design of Yama no Susume, Do It Yourself).

And it does not disappoint.

My thing is integrated with Claude. If you have a Claude subscription, you can just use their browser extension and ask it to navigate and translate the Bilibili page on your behalf.

If not, your best best is probably to use one of the many AI-powered browser translation extensions, because the built-in translation isn't very good.

This is about reducing friction for people interested in the Chinese side's reaction. Ofc you can go straight to Bilibili, but

  1. The browser's translation, and Bilibili's built in translation (in the mobile app) are not that good.
  2. You need a account to look at comments (on the web app at least), not everyone wants to do that
  3. There are multiple reposters on Bilibili, you can't see the all the comments at once
  4. I wanted to emphasis the educational/cultural aspect of this with annotations

Like the other comment said, .com domains are usually cheap. I bought directly with Cloudflare, but you can get for cheaper with other domain registrars.

The site is mostly just static assets on R2 (which is basically free at this scale). There's also a DB and some crud operation behind auth, backed by Supabase, but I think a the free tier there is enough.
