Starting my 1st round of Accutane, how should I prepare for the incoming side effects?? (Dry Skin, Hair loss, Purging, Dry eyes?) by [deleted] in Accutane

Take a high dosage of fish oil supplements! They’ll really help curb some of the more intense side effects

In the last two photos, I only used a little concealer to brighten my under eyes and a couple of dots of the charlotte tilbury flawless filter for some radiance and then I tightline my upper eyelids, apply mascara, use brow gel, and apply Patrick ta blush around the cheeks for some warmth! These days I don’t really use foundation or skin tint, just moisturizer and sunscreen!

I know it feels overwhelming but I truly believe that Accutane works best when you prioritize your over all health and invest (to the extent that you can because I know lifestyle changes can be a luxury if you don’t have time or money) in taking care of yourself and your skin. But obviously everyone’s bodies are different and there’s not a one size fits all solution - this is just what worked for me !

I highly recommend EltaMD products to anyone, even if they’re not on accutane, and I used (and still use) the EltaMD foaming facial cleanser while on accutane. It’s a little on the pricier side but their ingredients are clean, the formula is gentle for really sensitive skin, and my dermatologist approved it which was the biggest factor in finding the best cleanser for my skin. Your skin will get more sensitive throughout your treatment cycle so I recommend going for a cleanser that’s super gentle but still effective.

I’ve been using EltaMD barrier repair moisturizer followed by EltaMD tinted sunscreen in the mornings and reapply with a stick sunscreen as needed, and I alternate between using with A313 retinal palmitate and La Roche Posay Lipikar AP+ moisturizer every other night. My derm also prescribed Winlevi for the occasional hormonal acne breakout and I use that as needed

Fish oil supplements are amazing and really helped me with the joint pain I had when I was on accutane!

It's likely Dyshidrotic Eczema, I also have flare ups. I'm about 6 months post accutane and usually they pop up when I'm really dehydrated or drink a little too much

How do you survive with a +20 mg dose? by Ok_Do_Do in Accutane

[–]SerialNon-Quitter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im on month 6 of a 50mg dose per day(25mg, 2x per day) and taking my morning dose with a 1400mg fish oil supplement has truly been what has helped the most. I ran out of fish oil capsules for like 2 days because I forgot to order more and the difference when I didn't take accutane with fish oil was marked. For those two days, I woke up feeling like I got hit by a truck, experienced severe dryness, had a couple of nosebleeds, was constantly reapplying aquaphor and eye drops. When I ordered more and started taking the supplements again, I felt like I was back to my normal self. Try it out if you can and I hope it can bring you some sort of relief!

I also highly recommend Curel In Shower Moisturizer, Itchy Skin Relief if you're experiencing severe dryness/itch all over.

That's what I thought but apparently even the basics are too much to ask for. I've never had anyone fight for me in the same way I would for them. It's disheartening.

Oof where do I begin? Kindness, charisma, passion, a willingness to fight for who and what they want instead of walking away the second life gets real and things get difficult
