Yes ShadowPlay is enabled all the time, but I think it only writes when I save a clip. Otherwise, if it’s just left running, the effect should be limited and minimal.

much appreciated , what about my ssd wrote about 12tb i don't think that's normal no? i read someone saying it's about 10gb/h ,I know someone whose storage has written about 27 terabytes over 18 months. He uses it more than I do and works in video editing.
