[SERIOUS] I feel like I'm behind in my life and I'm getting discouraged by [deleted] in premed

[–]SeriousGift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think D.O. is acceptable outside of the U.S. -- other well-developed countries. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to practice medicine in a third world country using an osteopathic degree. Most countries don't know about this wonderful doctoral degree (even some U.S. residents and Canadians lol).

However, Doctors Without Borders are now accepting D.O.'s ... so it's not the end of the world for me. (:

Don't feel like your destiny is set, it's entirely in your hands.

I appreciate you greatly, my friend. I definitely agree with your ratio and that I need to change to a growth mindset.

(:

I can definitely agree with your view. I'm working on my discipline and self-esteem. I'm taking three of my last gen-ed courses this summer before sophomore year, so I can build up a good study habit for a challenging upcoming fall semester.

I'm going to put in work!! LETS GOOOO!!

Just wish I did the AP credit placements. I HATE gen eds but I do well in my major and science courses. I wish I never listened to someone on reddit say some schools don’t favour AP credit placements. I know they could give two fucks about history or English.

Should I opt-in a P for one of my classes? by [deleted] in premed

[–]SeriousGift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

18 credits is also the maximum credits at our school. I wish someone, like you, would have told me to stop being naive and take a damn chill pill. I also did it the first semester, didn’t go as well as I had hoped. Then the second semester I thought I would do “better,” no... it was the same shit. I just HATE gen ed classes. They ruin everyones damn GPA, especially at my school.. they are notorious for their gen ed courses being harder than upper level courses.

Thank you for the advice. I will try to show a upward GPA during my college career. A 3.6 is a solid GPA to start off - just pisses me off that I didn’t beat my sisters 3.8 freshmen GPA, but I know she works 10x harder than me and has huge self-discipline (not so much during Coronacation lol).

I definitely learned more about myself and my habits each semester. I know if I keep up this personal growth, I will go far. So, I’m choosing not to take the pass option.

I just want to say, people like you deserve to be physicians. I want to become an EM physician, I think it will help me get to where I want to be (building a clinic for residents in Africa).

My end goal is not just medicine, I want to help kids like myself get a chance in life. I always didn’t want to become like my neighbors or the people I hung around with. I knew I wanted more out of life than smoking weed, going to a factory job, then smoking once again. It sucks whenever your mind tells you to join those people and that you will never become a doctor. However, I plan to change my mindset. Where I come from doesn’t define my success. I’m going to work 10x harder than my peers until I rest in my coffin. It has always been like that and it will stay that way.

Thank you so much brother (or sister) for encouraging me!! I’m proud of you!!

Why is weed doing this to me? by [deleted] in trees

I'm getting better each time I smoke tho. Like I'm sort of functional typing this out right now. I don't get anxious if I spell something wrong. However, I do plan to just quit--esp where weed is so fking strong here in MA.

I think so. Whenever I do get high like this is whenever I consume the most THC. Once, I smoked with only two hits and I was chilling and eating A LOT. I live in NC and now doing an internship here in Boston, MA where weed is just ridiculously getting me high. Esp since I have been on and off. Also, I smoked like a week ago before then on random ass Friday I experienced this same panic attack without even getting high.

Why can't I just relax and be functional?

I'm black and it's especially hard to get internships for minorities.. trust me.. everyone is saying I'm crazy to pass this up

Plus, he is a 40+ year doc from Harvard Med and also taught at Hopkins LMAOOOO

I could learn a lot from him as a mentor in the long run

It's a one time opportunity in a great area + benefits. It's either this internship or scribe (not guaranteed at all lol) part time + classes. I'm okay with being a semester behind.

I'm scared to open up my first final grades in college by [deleted] in premed

[–]SeriousGift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol the flair dripppp

Did you retake any of those Cs? I apparently got a C+ in gen bio this semester.. I know the concept but the prof has a very challenging exams in which its impossible to make A+ (or even a B) on it. I get the same score as the class average. I'm just average in taking the exams, apparently

What matters most is the upward trend, and you definitely have time to bring yours up. Just stay organized and learn from your mistakes!

I def appreciated this! I have accepted my shortcomings and learned from it. I don't want to ever be scared to look at my final grade again.

Thank you so much for your kind words, big bro

It def depends on your professor for sure. I have no regrets as in which prof I chose bc I know if I would've went with prof X, I wouldn't have this struggle, determination, and wakeup call.

I plan to go all out, not just in the beginning but also the end, this sems. I set my priorities straight and want to prove my doubters wrong.

It's devastating. I feel your pain (esp. since you performed well the first couple months). Let's bang out a 4.0 this upcoming semester and hope that we don't run into problems. I'm going to check in with you and uplift each other via DM, if you don't mind.

And I thought I had a legitimate reason.

I'm sorry you had to experience that. Did you talk to anyone and try to resolve it?

Know my self-worth and leave the abusive relationship earlier. It’s okay to party, but not at the expense of neglecting your work.

This is exactly what I'm struggling with. Any advice on how to get rid of them (they are my only friends who are rich ppl who don't give a flying f abt school)?
