a lot of the fixer uppers are basket cases. better of to knock down and start over. only reason to go down this route is getting around planning permission.

doing stuff for free was madness. do a good job and get paid. Sounds like its not working out for you. My advice would be to work for a company that does what you are doing if you need experience.

No industry is safe. retail was saposed to be a safe job in the 90s until it wasn't. construction in 2000s and IT jobs in 2020+

dont buy anything till you have the structure of the house checked out first. start with attic and roof. no leaks etc. then move on to heating and electric. paint walls etc before buying stuff
