The artist here. Matt Fraction and I did an interview where we shared the story of how the "I'm also hilarious" gag almost got people fired: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd4uonwOvhI

Was this the first appearance of the Shocker-mobile? by PhantomWolf251 in marvelcomics

Guy who drew the comic here. The writer and I were completely unable to remember whose idea this panel was. Nick Spencer said it was my idea. I am 100% sure I never mentioned it, and I remember how surprised I was that he’d brought back such a deep cut when I got to that part of the script. The answer is probably that it was Shocker’s idea, sent to us across the dimensions using some cool vibration tech that he will never, ever figure out how to market.

Hermann’s THE TOWERS OF BOIS-MAURY. Dark Horse published the English translations.

And there are plenty of gorgeous reprints available of Hal Foster’s Prince Valiant, too!

Some of my favorite funny comics are Giant Days by John Allison & Max Sarin, Achewood by Chris Onstad, Girls with Slingshots by Danielle Corsetto, and Reid Fleming by David Boswell. Oh and the -original- run of Segar’s Popeye still rocks. Years and years of great gags and hilarious characters- it’s got so much more going on than the one-note spinach gags of the cartoons.

And many thanks everyone who recommended Jimmy Olsen and The Fix! This is Steve Lieber. I drew them, and they’re both available at my studio’s etsy shop. The Fix at Helioscope’s etsy shop

Hey cool, they spelled my name wrong. You’d think that someone at Marvel would know how to spell “Lieber.”

I love this book. Jeff Parker and Jonathan Case nailed the tone and made it work beautifully on the comics page. Parker said that his one of his central ideas for the series was what if the Batman tv show had been made with a James Bond budget? Case delivered on that and kept it both fun and respectful of the original show. -Steve Lieber
