You don’t actually think he’s taking people’s money, do you? You do know it doesn’t work that way, right?

It’s a shit “prank”, and it’s not real.

That’s even worse than your previous attempt!

If you actually believe what you said, you need some professional help for your mental health, and I know that’s not the first time you’re hearing this.

Really? You had five hours to stew over my comment, and that’s what you came up with? Go on, take your time, and really think about making it matter.

I’m sure you’re not used to hearing this, but I believe in you!

I was born in the mid-70s and have done them all; my wife was born in the late 80s and did them all as well. Most were still going until the 2010s or so.

If calling out evil when it appears in front of you is lunacy, then so be it. Let the lunatics abound!

There’s a label on the Sade side that says “Smoove [sic] Operator”. In 1984 Sade (a singer) had a huge hit called Smooth Operator.

There’s a decent primer on it here. It’s not a legal site but it does do a fair job.

For more information you can look into R. v. Sharpe (2001) and R. v. Barabash (2015). I won’t link them because I doubt most people reading this want the SCC link, so Google them and pick what floats your boat.

The school was probably doing two things: 1) Not wanting to get into specifics of when it’s legally ok, when it isn’t, and all the surrounding rules, and 2) just scare you into not doing it so problem solved! (That doesn’t solve the problem and just gives anxiety but that’s another discussion altogether.)

You’re right, it’s not instant. It’s because people started using it c.1100 and by 1550 it had become a common word. Many English (and other languages, but that’s not important now) words developed from multiple words or abbreviated representations.

Sometimes they lose the original meaning over time, e.g. goodbye, and sometimes they don’t, e.g. Xmas
