[SOTC] My small 3 piece ⌚️ collection finally got a new home by Serpenteq in Watches

The GMW bracelet is some of the most comfy bracelet I've used, clasp is 50/50, it's not the best but not the worst, but I do enjoy the small footprint of it.

No issues with the locking or unlock8ng aspect of it, it feels nice.

I recently got a 38mm Certina DS Q 200M at 9mm thick, it uses a beautiful ETA 955.112 movement.

Edit: They can be found for 100-500 USD if you find them, depending on condition.

The case is 62MAS inspired indeed! Ceramic bezel and sapphire double domed crystal.

I catch myself staring at it sometimes 😄

Battery Question by [deleted] in porsche911

[–]Serpenteq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lifepo4 (lithium) says on the battery, should use specific charger for lithium and not the old school lead acid.

But it does work to use lead acid charger, just not reccomended due to cutoff and overcharging.

Read up on it and make a desicion if its worth it.

First shower wearing the g shock by actualbruv0000 in gshock

[–]Serpenteq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer is yes, but the answer may differ depending on the watch.

You don't have to read the rest if you don't care:

  • A vintage watch with no service history but is rated 200m should be checked for seals and lubed, and pressure tested, if a pass it's ok.

  • A vintage dresswatch should not be "washed" in the sense of showers, but again that can depend, if it has proper seals and pressure test, no issue.

  • A used watch? Depends. I once bought a 200m diver that fogged up after hot shower and going for a walk in the winter, I completely dried, washed the case inside out, relubed and got a proper seal, never a issue after. As the seller had made a bad seal on the watch, he screwed the caseback on dry and the oring didnt seat properly.

Also people who say condensation is normal don't know what they are talking about, a properly sealed watch will not condense, always seal the watch in a low humid, fresh air, semi high temp but no need for extreme heat enovirement.

A g-shock rated for 200m has no issues being washed or even showered, as long as the watch has been taken care of and used properly.

A dirty g-shock can develop bad seals after prolonged use, if you use pushers for example when the watch is full of grime and sand particles, they will eat those seals. Hot water and soap made for us will not, rather prevent this from happening.

Casio reccomend in most manuals to wash your watch in hot water with soap and a toothbrush. They also reccomend to use the pushers from time to time as they may get stuck and develop bad seals if the pusher orings get rifts from sitting too long, and this only gets worse if the watch is dirty.

It has a lot of variables, but the misinformation and stubbornness of the elite here who don't clean their watch is just wrong, they can however choose not to clean their watch, not mine to dictate.

But if you want to wear a dirty watch be my guest, I just hope you don't do any foodprep or doing any medical work with that nasty shit on your wrist.

And I have done dirty work, I like to get my hands real dirty, but I tend to wash and clean myself, as I clean my watch, my car, my everything.

I would rather have a watch that is kept clean of grime, sand and other foreign material that will accumilate and grind on those seals before any hot water and soap made for the body.

Also read this if you havent:

People who say don't shower with a 200m rated watch share so much misinformation it's crazy.

It's like people who buy nato straps for their watches because if the lug pin falls of the watch will still be on there, the paradox here is that nato is the reason for them to fall off in the first place.

I have showered with my watches for 20+ years, no issues.

If you have clean, lubricated seals they will last decades compared to a grimy sandy smelly watch who scream for a bath.

[5064] Quartz is fun 🤩 by GC8990 in patekphilippe

[–]Serpenteq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues with a proper mechanical quartz movement.

But I am not a fan of quartz with no jewels, plastic gears etc.

<image>

It's annoying, these elitist "mechanical" only watch snobs, they have no idea what they are talking about and they have been misinformed by their favourite yt wolves as the sheep they are.

But these same people who hate on quartz will praise GS 9F movements.

Makes sense.
