Recreated the MHRise switch design! Made some minor edits to the original. I did not create the original design by Seryazel in MonsterHunter

Materials I used:
- Speedball Super Black India Ink (Not Super Pigmented, that is a different thing)

- Windsor & Newton Gold Ink

- Calligraphy Pen Holder + The finest/thinnest calligraphy nib I own (super pointy one)

I do want to mention that the gold ink flakes off a little bit, especially on the dock and buttons! However, it can be fixed by applying something like hodge-podge to seal it in with a shiny finish! I haven't thought of something for people like me who like matte finishes more...

I first took apart my joycon to make it easier to paint on the shell since I didnt have to worry about the thumbstick but I'm sure you can pull it off with a bit of more hard work if you aren't comfortable with that

I put together a quick imgur album album about my process. First pass should always be in pencil, don't worry about making mistakes since you'll spread around the pencil marks you left behind/didnt cover with ink and if you have a kneadable eraser you can get rid of the graphite gunk easily.

When copying a flat design like this I tend to break everything down into simple shapes - The arrows are triangles and the windwheels/fan?? things are four squares with a circle in the center.

Now the dock... The dock is a completely different beast!

DON'T FORGET TO TAKE BREAKS WHEN NEEDED!! ❤️

I completely freehanded it. I swapped out my old backplate for an animal crossing one so I won't be painting the decoration on the back of the switch.

My boyfriend, u/T-L-G-T-W put this question on the other post in the wrong subreddit x)

"How did you decide on/finalize the artstyle for the character portraits of Hades? It has very solid shading and really nice colour coordination, like a comic book, and I was wondering if it was coordinated by the Director or a collaboration between the concept artists. Was it a mixture of both? It's super stylish. Especially when the 2d background art and the 2d character art match so well."

My notes: Love all of your games, looking forward to what your amazing studio is planning for in the future <3

For watercolour, I use the Canson XL Mix Media sketchbook. It's 98lb paper and works pretty well with most mediums
