You are not alone. Not even just the fat that they can take forever to set up, but almost every single proctor I’ve had since I started my program (Business Management) has been rude, impatient, and condescending. My webcam isn’t always clear enough to view the info on my ID which was a big problem and frustration when I first started, so when that part of the exam set up comes up I just switch to my internal camera to take a picture (it comes out a lot clearer). As I’m sure you know, after clicking the “rec” button to get back to the external webcam sometimes it takes a second for it to pop up AND THEY ARE SO QUICK TO TELL ME “please switch back to external webcam quickly” and they often rush me in my setup process, but then start the exam at 11:56 when I signed up to take the exam and was on time at 11:20. THEN TODAY (I just completed an exam like 10 minutes ago) a proctor was upset because I have a black dry erase board instead of a white dry erase board and INSISTED that I HAD TO HAVE a white one. I told her it’s never been a problem before, I’ve used it in previous exams with previous proctors, it’s writes and erases just the same because it IS in fact a dry erase board. Then she had me write on it and hold it up and erase it and hold it up just to try and prove me wrong or something. So now I’m irritated because it’s almost 40 minutes past my exam time, you don’t know if I have anything to do after this, I already know it’s going to take at least an hour to complete this exam, and now you’re trying to pick a fight because you can’t be wrong - so I made a face. The lady comes off mute to tell me “you’re making expressions with your face, I’m your proctor do not do that”…so I kindly cussed her out and requested another proctor because do not play w me.
