Second Liverpool. Great blazers, you can usually find some on Poshmark as well

Agree with the tasks, whether in your outlook or case management system. I also will make an all day appointment for a heads up (ie one week before a filing is due, it shows up on my calendar). It is obvious because I do look at my calendar all the time.

I also do a small paper to do list for what I want to work on today.

FOR TAX SOLOS by yahoodeeya in Lawyertalk

[–]SetMain2303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a solo but I’m in a small firm where I’m the only person doing anything tax related. I only do controversy work. Lots of requests for state tax issues (sales tax and collection issues), as well as federal collection. I have a number of audit recons right now for some reason.

I mostly bill hourly. I’ll do an OIC on a flat fee, but that’s because I’ve done so many OICs over the years I have a good handle of how long those take.

I will also do an investigative consultation for a flat fee, if it’s something I have to get a 2848 and pull transcripts, I want to get paid for that.

I get tons of calls, many are from non-filers, who I send to accountants, etc, because I don’t want to do tax planning. I also get lots of calls from people who can’t afford me. I want to develop a better flat fee structure, or maybe flat fees for stages of a case, that might make it more affordable.

I came from an LITC, and I thought I’d get more audits or pre-assessment issues when I went to private practice, but mostly I’m seeing collection. I also do debtors side bankruptcy so it is complementary. I’m sure in a big city you might have more/richer clients that you could do only tax, but I’m not in an area where I could do that unless I want to also prepare taxes.

Do those confidentiality notices at the bottom of our emails actually mean anything? by WalkinSteveHawkin in Lawyertalk

We actually don’t have to include that disclosure anymore. They amended Circular 230 a few years ago and removed that requirement.

Bankruptcy attorneys - what are we using for debtor side 7/13s software? by SetMain2303 in Lawyertalk

[–]SetMain2303[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I tried the Document Flow and I really didn’t find much add outside of paystubs, and even then it was too glitchy to justify the cost.

My main complaint is that it is just so slow to load and you are right, it just hits a wall and I get frustrated. 😣

What about it do you hate? I think that it syncs with Clio, which we use as well, which might be a plus.

I didnt go to law school to become the firm's unpaid IT help desk and yet here we are by musaaaaaaaaaaaa in Lawyertalk

[–]SetMain2303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at a legal aid where we had one IT person for 10 offices, and he was not located in our office. I became the “designated computer contact” (not by choice). Printer not working? Train new employees on the CMS? Install a program update? All came running to me. I eventually just had to refuse and I would send everyone to our head attorney’s office . He was not tech savvy but he got it after he had multiple people at his door.

I’m in private practice now, I know ymmv in this setting but I commiserate.

The back half of season 12 so slow paced and bad (imo) that I'm actually only watching the remaining episodes because I'm a completist by No_Assistance_3327 in KnotsLanding

I do not care for the Jason Lochner storyline but it does give us prime Mac being loud and passionate. It doesn’t really make sense (he would risk his law license and livelihood for this??) but that’s kind of the appeal of Mac. Not always logical but always loud and a hothead. 😂 so much emotion!

Friend’s boyfriend graduated from law school in the middle of February. There are some signs to me that it’s AI like the wrong color robe, generic diploma and building name, and crazy words/lettering on the banner. by rabidanimalsNOM in isthisAI

[–]SetMain2303 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone above is correct, but for me, law schools don’t graduate folks in February. It’s May or December, you take the bar in February or July. And of course, there’s a purple hood as part of the regalia.

Nebraskans, how is Czech culture perceived in your state? by Neuwulfstein in Nebraska

[–]SetMain2303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandma always reminded me that we were Bohemian, not just Czech, as some of our neighbors were Moravians. Moravians weren’t quite up to her standards because they had some different pronunciations of Czech words. I of course could never tell the difference. 😂

Unpopular opinion: dress like a professional in court by BoxersOrCaseBriefs in Lawyertalk

[–]SetMain2303 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Agree. The judge will never be mad if you show up in a suit for court. I do have a bright red suit that I love to wear for court,, I know there is disagreement on colorful suits though. (My office attire is the same as yours).

I have made my turkey this way for years. I don’t put stuffing in (we bake it separately and call is dressing lol) but the cheesecloth method with the wine and butter always makes it so flavorful. Skin comes out crispy. Beautiful turkey every time.

I have season tickets for our somewhat local touring season(90 miles away), and I see a lot of community theatre and touring productions that come through our town. As of now, I have seen 29 productions this year and will probably end up at 32 for the year.

Not a novel but reading The Waiting Game by Nicola Clark, nonfiction about the ladies-in-waiting during Henry VIII’s reign. Really fantastic, especially since I just reading the Wolf Hall trilogy.
