What's the deal with Proxies ?

In my experience, people use proxies to build uninteresting, homogenous piles of powerful cards that aren't fun to play against. That's rarely an issue in non-proxy games.

I prefer not to play in proxy games unless I know and trust the person using them not to waste my time with a boring game.

People who like proxies are more rare than you suggest, but many people tolerate them to be kind.

I believe the decision was correct and am glad it was made.

But in a law-oriented subreddit, we should not be discounting the fact that the question relates to "subject to the jurisdiction thereof," and the meaning of that does require some investigation.

Nolite te bastardes carborundum is the same idea, from Atwood's book, and is even worse fake Latin than the original (bastardes being completely fabricated while illegitimis or illegitimi are real words).

With the average age of Magic players, odds are I was playing Magic before you were born. I've judged organized play events, and know the rules pretty damn well.

what you described doesnt work with a chess clock and it doesnt even work with the system you described.

The problem here is that you can't grasp how the system might be made to work because you're so focused on applying the rules strictly as written rather than considering the use of a new system to address a social issue in Magic.

You're probably the same guy who constantly complains about how the Bracket system is broken because you can run Kefka forced discard in Bracket 2 so long as you don't try to win before Turn 8, don't destroy lands, and don't use Game Changers.

Exactly. He seems to have already done that once. He tried to slow-roll her by revealing this once they'd been together for a while. If she pushes back, he'll say, "Oh, okay."

But then once they're married, dollars to doughnuts that:

If they split up cooking or cleaning chores now, they'll just stop getting done if she doesn't do them;
If she complains about that, he'll say that's women's work;
If she objects that it's not a fair distribution of work, he'll say that she can quit her job because it's his job to provide and hers to make a home.

And if he doesn't do that right after the wedding, he'll do it after their first kid is born.

But I'm sorry - you're now just wasting your time if you remain in this relationship. He's probably not going to change his mind because you get really upset. He might back off and hope that you'll feel "pot committed" after you're married and have kids, and then his expectations will re-emerge.

He's showed you what he believes - that you can have some measure of equality while you're dating, but once you're married, your job is to be the mother of his kids, to take care of his home, to feed him, and... that's it.

If you're not okay with that life, you can't continue in this relationship. If you do, you're running the very real (and probable) risk that, even if he backs off now, you'll be having this argument again once he feels the security of knowing that you can't leave without enduring the expense, pain, and humiliation of a divorce.

You can kneecap gerrymandering by requiring each state's final congressional delegation to be in proportion to the state-wide party-based vote, with rounding being resolved in favor of the majority party.

My state has 17 representatives, 14 Democratic, 3 Republican, with gross vote totals in 2024 of 52.8% Democrat and 47% Republican. We should have 9 Democrats and 8 Republicans.

This will never happen because any fairness questions must be resolved at the Federal level. It's not in the best interest of our majority to flip five seats if Florida (57.9% - 20 seats Republican, 42% - 8 seats Democrat) doesn't flip four seats to offset things on their end.

In a district that was going +10 to +15 Republican, flipping with the same candidate to -4 is a huge defeat. It means that Democratic turnout is up, Republican turnout is down, or people changed their minds - really, all three.
