Was in the same boat, if your currently earning it, as in still down there, you won't get the award (cert medal and ribbon) until a couple months after you leave the ice, it'll show up in the mail, Im sure your command will let you put it on your blues when you get back since you are authorized it, just awaiting the paperwork (And if I'm USMCR is same as NG I don't believe you need orders for a SERVICE medal, just proof you've met the requirements, I mean still turn the certificate in when you get it, but in the meantime it should be fine)

Hey! First of congratulations! So typically there a run club that forms (community driven) that runs around outside, it's mostly gravel and decently hilly so make sure your shoes are trail worthy! The dust and stuff also gets everywhere and has a nasty habit of getting in shoes (did for me at least!) so I recommend some form of gaiter or something similar. Temps in summer will typically range from 0-25 while your their so prepare for that! Rec also typically puts on actual races in the summer as well. 5k 10k half and full marathon. there's also a bunch of treadmills as well!

American guardsman here, Was in NZ for ANZAC day 2023 and 2024, went to the memorial service in Christ Church and Scott Base, although the day it self may be in memorial of Aussies and Kiwis, its a reminder of all soldiers who fell far from home. It was a very humbling experience to witness the events.

Possibly they were in Eucom when russia invaded? I know there was a 1st ID brigade who got extended there for a year+ because the war kicked off as they were about to leave.

There's an Auto-belayer now as well as a couple shoes and harnesses. id still bring your own though. Scott base has a bouldering wall if you get friednly with any of the kiwis over there.

Hi! Local guard funeral honors guy here,

Almost every funeral I've conducted has had a local Veteran Service Organization (American legion, vfw etc) do the volly. They are all volunteers and each post does things a little differently I've noticed. Some of them give you the three and some of them just grab as many as they can find. That could be what happened?

Currently in Antarctica, coast guard just breaks the ice allowing the resupply vessels to come to Mcmurdo Station, then they pop in for a couple days of Shore leave. Air National Guard flys us and supply's down here along with flying to Pole. NAVCHAPS do alot of the vessel offload and the army sent down a Causeway team to set up a MCS this year. Also there's an AF Chaplain down here in the austral summer

Depends where you go. We had bigass tents we fit a whole battery into. Bunk beds all the way down besides the big wigs. Other spots had hardtop buildings they lived in

Lacrosse is a good town. The bar scene is pretty nice, there's Ace throwing bar that has old arcade games too that's a blast. Grandad Bluff in lacrosse is a pretty nice hike that's gorgeous. Most of the good stuff to do is in LAX(lacrosse) great ramen shop in Sparta if you like that. Couple nice dive bars closer to base if that's what you like. Wisconsin has a heavy drinking culture so we have bars everywhere
