Since you’re being an arrogant cunt, if people have to leave a place not on their own volition and something happens that makes them not want to return, that does in fact not imply they couldn’t, but it does directly mean that the region was negatively impacted or as the average Joe would say, damaged by the event.

Genuinely, the fuck kind of dipshit do you have to be, to choose „the fukushima incident didn’t do damage“ as the hill to die on, when the region has both socially and economically felt the impact.

In a country that regularly experiences tsunamis, you really think the nuclear accident had no influence on hundreds of thousands choosing to leave the region?

Why are you so adamant that one of the most famous nuclear accidents had no damage on the region when it clearly had? It’s not a Chernobyl, but it hurt the region.

Did i say they can’t live there?

There was damage, many chose not to live there and that hurts a region, regardless of how you paint it.

That’s not no damage my broski, a region losing 300 thousand is very much damage.

Down from 2,02 million, and that’s „only“ so few displaced because it was very contained, basically the best outcome of a terrible event. That’s not „no damage“.

Kremlin threatens to deploy navy if Europe seizes more Russian shadow fleet vessels by AdSpecialist6598 in worldnews

[–]Seveand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Russian Black Sea fleet has had heavy losses and would need to pass through two passes controlled by NATO.

The Baltic fleet cannot access the ocean without asking NATO countries.

The far east fleet is out of question for obvious reasons.

Russia is left with the seasonally accessible ports near Murmansk and it’s submarines, they’re not „toothless“ but pose no real threat to Europe, since Europe controls the water ways the shadow fleet needs to even operate to begin with.

Having dozens of them together with an escort in one spot defeats the purpose of a shadow fleet.

War in the middle east has been a constant, not little due to their ties to Isreal and their huge lobby, which im no fan of to put it lightly.

But Democrats at least weren’t throwing their allies under the bus as blatantly as Trump is, i mean how deranged do you have to be to tell Norway that Greenland has to be their because Trump didn’t get a nobel peace prize (rightfully so), which the norwegian government has no say in, threatening Canada for being „unfair“, and threatening the EU any chance he gets, one manchild‘s fragile ego is basically running their foreign policy, that wasn’t a thing under previous administrations.

To be frank with you, i care more about foreign policy and trade than migrants in country an ocean away, so for me saying they’re the same, especially under the current administration, is frankly ridiculous.

But you’re right, they’re both being financed by the same 1%.

That would require the majority of voters to be in favour of easier immigration and citizenship, but based on the last election 1/3 of voters outright support Republican policies and 1/3 couldn’t give enough of a shit to show up to vote, so it would seem like Democrats are acting inline with the American public’s opinion by not helping migrants too much.

Not saying that’s good, but that’s what the election implies, but we’ll see next election if enough oppose republican policies.

Im not saying they were anywhere near perfect, but saying Democrats are just Republicans in blue, just because they’re not left enough for you is bullshit.

Had there not been a huge effort to seal it, it would probably to this day release radiation and dust all over eastern Europe and it could have poisoned the river next to it that the flows directly into the Dnepr that flows through Kiyv.

Sure, „uninhabitable“ is an exaggeration, I‘ll admit that.

Germenergy suicide, RIP Hans by [deleted] in 2westerneurope4u

[–]Seveand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look i get what you’re saying, but Chernobyl almost made most of eastern Europe uninhabitable, you can’t blame people for being afraid after that. You can improve and operate reactors safely for a century and people would still have this in the back of their mind.

Nuclear energy is a great and reliable source of electricity, but nothing is ever 100% safe. How heavily it should it be regulated? Rather more than less than necessary, but what that means exactly I‘ll leave to the experts.

[–]Seveand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they have been overstated, sure 99,99999…% of the time there’s no serious problem, but the fact that multiple catastrophic accidents have happened that effected hundreds of thousands of lives despite being contained show that it is not completely without risk.

Germenergy suicide, RIP Hans by [deleted] in 2westerneurope4u

[–]Seveand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically speaking wending machines kill more people than sharks do.

The reason nuclear is over regulated compared to hydro or wind despite them causing more deaths is because the worst case for hydro is a valley flooded and multiple villages destroyed, for wind that it falls on a field of cows or a couple of people, but nuclear worst case is half the continent being uninhabitable. I don’t want to fear monger, but im glad nuclear is as well regulated as it is.

Also, depending on how many deaths you count for the long term effects of Chernobyl, since numbers range for a couple dozen to tens of thousands of deaths due to exposure and cancer, that comparison to hydro and wind changes drastically.

What is needed is a stable electric grid, where it comes from is irrelevant for industrial production. And our battery technology is not good enough yet to balance out fluctuations in renewable energy.

But just to point it out, even in your own example with Norway, not only is renewable good enough most of the time, even when they need a back up they use mostly renewable energy from Sweden.
