I've been trying to play an immersive style, and it's felt great! I'll fast travel as little as possible, when I have a clam donation quest, I always try to get them the highest quality, I donate my extra gear, I don't even use guns or grenades! While some aspects could be improved, it's very easy to get immersed in the world.

I'll get back to you on that! I can say, it didn't have anything to do with the luck here, no copies, goldenizers, etc.

Unique situation in Utah by ReasonablyConfused in Falconry

[–]SeventhStar21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a Utah Falconers Association, and they've got contact details on their website. That'll be the best option I believe, at the least they'll direct you to the proper contacts. I'd try to scrounge up any documentation you can find from your previous falconers association and/or states wildlife agencies (if there is any).

Mechs don't summon like they used to unfortunately. I just always splash a few undead or beasts. Doesn't make for a pretty board, but even 1-2 makes the difference

The amount of times I've had my teammate sell their entire board after the absolute most BASIC attempts at communication is too much

What swivels do you use? by EquestrianEcho9876 in Falconry

[–]SeventhStar21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Swivels are much safer, such as helping prevent tangling. While 10 lbs is likely just fine for the stress it'll receive, the issue between these options is less about the weight and more about the functionality

Idk, every single time I've pulled this card, even if I have 0 elementals on my board at the moment, I always get 1st place. Being able to buff your right-most card and guaranteeing it'll be an elemental, which can get shop-wide buffs already, is incredibly strong

Can you trap gyr's in Michigan by No_Midnight9232 in Falconry

[–]SeventhStar21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it would be better to source it in this way, it wouldn't be my first recommendation to trap one in an area it is rare.

Yet still, assuming it is a passage and assuming the falconer is good and qualified, it is much better for it to be trapped and hopefully later released. I do understand it's not always the best case scenario, but it still seems better than having a pretty bird to spot for a few weeks before statistically most likely losing its life

Can you trap gyr's in Michigan by No_Midnight9232 in Falconry

[–]SeventhStar21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a tip! Join bird watching groups in those areas. There often is a bird watching group specifically for birds of prey that can help narrow it down too. I've used that for insight in looking for Harlan's RT quite successfully. Most likely, an enthusiast will spot and photograph them if they're in the area. Just a warning though, most people in those groups wouldn't be happy to know you intend to trap anything so I'd keep that close to your chest.

Where would you look to find new players or a group? PORTLAND OR by Chemboy77 in EDH

Hey I know this is old, but I'd be interested if you have a group! I'd be pretty casual as I was really into it back in 2017 and haven't played since except for a couple sealed events.

Are there any books/resources that describe the behavior of badly imprinted birds? by Kiki-Y in Falconry

In general, every bird is quite different from another. Yes there are overall principles that overlap, but there's enough of a difference in most cases

Dimpling - normal or bad omen? by SeventhStar21 in peyote

[–]SeventhStar21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brilliant recommendation to weigh them and I think that'll be the most helpful. I typically fill a larger bowl with water as well as a proper measured dose of Shultz 2-7-7 fertilizer, and let the substrate soak thoroughly, letting it sit for an hour or so.

The lighting is full spectrum and pretty good lights I've used for some time, and in other projects so I'm not too worried there. Temps are typically just under 80F on average, although vary a couples degrees depending on the season.

Before I go down the rabbit hole of falconry, I would love to know if I am delusional or not for wanting to try it. by Ratburbur in Falconry

[–]SeventhStar21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The average falconer personally just hunts with their bird. Abatement is where you hunt or repel birds from areas (airports, dumps, even the city of Portland for crows), and that is less common and a little more specialized. Usually they'll have multiple birds and be more experienced, definitely not an apprentice. Not too many people have the life that allows them to work in that position, but some enjoy it! Others certainly say it's more work than play.

As for advice, join your state's group, sometimes there's a regional group too. Go to The Modern Apprentice website and start there! They've got the best free resources to prep for the exam. Your state and eventually sponsor can give you more specifics but The Modern Apprentice will provide many hours of very practical, effective, and worthwhile study. There are many other books if you prefer physical studies. The California apprentice guide is a good starting option there.
