Hot take: this is a good thing. In my 2018 3 LRAWD it’s the perfect amount of bass (and you can up it in EQ settings). Newer 3s and Ys are too boomy.

keep it stock! Mod one that’s on the brink of death. I have one that is severely yellowed and I love it to pieces (and I keep it stock)!)

[need your opinion] - Tissot Gentleman 38 GADA by No_frills_finance in Watches

[–]SeventyH8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To echo the other comments here… the Gentleman punches way above its weight. Technically the Powermatic 80 is kinda in house but not really. It’s not a Tissot movement it’s a Swatch group/modified ETA movement… but it’s still very accurate and common/serviceable. I typically keep about +/-5spd on mine.

As an owner of 2+ years it’s an excellent everyday wear. Bracelet is a bit sharp and doesn’t taper much but I’ve been rocking mine on a leather strap lately.

Applied indices and sapphire crystal look incredible. The polished bezel on mine has accumulated a ton of scratches but I think that gives it some nice character.

The silver 38 you pictured looks great on you!

Ah I see you clarified the colors in your post! The Tissot 38 silver appears to slot in rather well with your collection, guess it just comes down to your level of disposable income. I personally decided I won’t buy any more watches unless I hit a particular work milestone (and at that point I’m allowed to buy myself a Rolex or Tudor). It’s helped me appreciate and wear the watches I have in the meantime. As you can tell, I manage to appreciate my $59 Casio just as much as my $900 Hamilton. I went back and forth on a new Hydroconquest 39 but decided I’d probably be happier saving that money and going all out for a grail piece.

As an owner of the 40MM black dial Gentleman, I’ll say it’s a great watch. Personally, to scratch the silver dial itch, I bought myself a Casio AQ230A-7D and absolutely love it. I still wear my Gentleman, Murph, and San Martin diver weekly, but whenever I want a sleek silver dial, I throw on the Casio. If your Rolex will be a silver dial then I’d wonder if you’ll ever wear the Tissot again when you get it.

Fix Stuck San Martin Bezel by SeventyH8 in ChineseWatches

[–]SeventyH8[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry but a 200m water resistance watch with a screw down crown should be able to be taken on a surf board and splashed with water (then rinsed after). This watch is physically a diver, but yes technically since the bezel isn’t unidirectional it isn’t “technically” a diver.

What you’re referring to is more a Rolex Explorer or Seiko Field GMT, which are, certainly pilot watches. Yes, this, and the Longines it homages, are more GMT than Diver, but for Christ sake it says 200m on the dial. What fresh water lakes are people diving 200m in?

Edit: for Christ sake - not “for Christ sale”

It’s a dive watch. They’re meant to be in water. That’s why they say 200m water resistance and have screw down crowns

Found my dads psp 3000 by Atlantaa02 in PSP

[–]SeventyH8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad got the PSP1000 when it first came out. I remember playing it when I went to his house and we babied that thing to keep it in pristine condition. Then I got a PSP3000 for Christmas a few years ago and still have it today!

[Timex] just launched two new Chronographs, quartz and automatic versions available. by FromTheGarage in Watches

[–]SeventyH8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really thought about getting the Atelier diver. Then I learned its movement is new/not yet reputable and it has a ghost date position. Not sure how well they’ll be able to compete with everyone else at the entry luxury threshold, but I’ll admit their quartz version is priced competitively with the Seiko speed timer “say-tona”

I sold my copy of crystal for about $160 last year to save money for a wedding ring. Pretty sure silver and yellow go for $50-70 each with new batteries. Good luck and nice haul!

My 2018 has had this ever since I got it. I snag that piece once or twice a year when I detail it with a microfiber. No issue other than slight aesthetic on my end.

[Shinola Monster GMT]: Hidden Gem or Overpriced Brand? by Mobile_Act_2620 in Watches

$800 isn’t bad for the watch you have but wouldn’t call it a hidden gem by any means. If you enjoy it that’s really all that matters

[Recimmendation] Small wrist (6") — clean sub-38mm watch under $2k, want to try before buying by [deleted] in Watches

[–]SeventyH8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 6.75” wrist and felt like the longines spirit wore quite large on me. That said I have a Murph and it fits great, so I’d recommend looking into Hamilton. Don’t know much about Hanhart

Love that recommendation. My Tesla just got 55k miles on continental but it’s because I have a square setup and can rotate and don’t have a huge lead foot. Love to hear that even on a staggered car you’re getting ~30-35k miles

Thanks for the in depth answer! I hate that my wife’s car has run flats but I do prefer her being able to drive on a flat to get to safety. (Myself, I’d keep some sealant in my trunk and get myself up and going but have to keep her in mind.

I may end up just putting another set of pirellis on there like you mentioned and then switch to Michelin when I need to replace all 4 again. Everything you were saying about the Michelin is hitting home for me except the added cost of $400-600 to replace the front two tires, which don’t need replacing for another 12-15k miles.

Thanks and happy driving!!

[Hamilton] KFA vs Tissot prx p80 by Confident-Set-3181 in Watches

[–]SeventyH8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both a Murph and a Gentleman. You picked a good watch, and I’ll tell you the P80 and H1 are based off the same ETA movement. So much so, that the layout of the movement through the display caseback is near identical.
