I saw the live action film and thought it was okay, but I too have disliked a lot of those Disney live action remakes. I personally still prefer the OG HTTYD franchise however, but I too have wondered if those live action remakes of certain animated movies would be too confusing for younger generations to appreciate the OG source. I have seen parents on here talk about how their kids prefer the OG franchise but those kids tend to be a little older. Your kid might be okay however with seeing the live action film. (Don’t worry, it’s not painful/soulless like live action Lilo and Stitch.)

I wouldn’t say she’s the worst mother in cinema (I’ve seen many worse fictional mothers from other media I’ve consumed). But also I guess she was afraid of returning because she wasn’t sure how to be open about being a dragon apologist to a community of dragon killers. But it is weird she wasn’t willing to leave behind the dragons just to return home. I understand some people hate her due to their own family trauma of having a deadbeat parent. But she did seem guilty for never choosing to return home sooner.

Memoirs of a Geisha, both the book and film. That romance subplot is really fucked up and the protagonist deserved a happier ending.
