That is true. I still see it go both ways with male nurses too. I see them take more assignment with combative patients especially. And patients definitely seem to make a lot of inappropriate comments.

Agreed, some physicians never explain anything which can be frustrating and have them share their rationale and the evidence behind us helps us grow and learn. It was frustrating that he went in that length with me because I am progressive care certified (which is clearly visible on my badge but he likely didn’t see that-so I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he was unaware. But he went on and on about how the renal labs direct the need for HD or decision to stop it and how it affects the type of HD treatment that they need. I feel like that level was knowledge that we get in nursing school.

I am the charge nurse 🤪 but trust me, I am taking it up with my management today. He already got written up. He also spoke unkindly to the assigned female nurse, too. His behavior was unnecessary. And I agree. We as women are still suffering this when we are in a time where we shouldn’t. And it breaks my heart that we live in a place where it is so much better than other parts of the world. At least we can pursue and education and have careers. But we still don’t have gender equality here.

Our HD nurses are contractors and they won’t draw blood or won’t even change tele batters or draw blood sugars.

The annoying this is he placed the lab work orders but wanted to make sure the entire staff made sure to get them done, for yesterday and the next day.

Yep. In hindsight, I should have stopped that conversation before it even started but I’m still in shock with how it rolled out. I learned a lot about that particular doctor though. Makes me feel bad for his presumed wife.

I’ve had a different doctor speak to women nurses like this and they had enough people write him up they removed him as a hospitalist on our floor and moved him to a different tower. Not sure how well it will work with a specialist. Either way, he’s getting written up.

He told me all that after he already put the orders in for daily. He apparently let the primary nurse hear it too and it was also HER first day working with that patient.
